Us fans and pundits can moan about stuff like Lamela going to ground for a little slap to the face all they like but, at the end of the day, you can’t slap people in the face.

In an ideal world they’d be no need for players to exaggerate in order for the referee or VAR to notice but they don’t more often than not and it’s the same for blatant penalties when the player tries to do the honourable thing and stay on their feet. Does anyone really think if Lamela had just ignored the slap that Martial would’ve got sent off? I seriously doubt it, personally.

I mean, it is good shit **** play as Lamela has done a beautiful job at winding him up with a elbow and Martial has reacted in the exact way Lamela was hoping for but you’ve kinda got to go to ground for it to get noticed, imo.

He’s so good at playing on the edge and even if he gets a yellow he’s so good at how he manages himself that it’s not a concern for me, I have total faith in him in this regard.

Having said all that this is just one of many things he does well and I don’t think being a shithouse should define him as a player he’s a lot more than that.

It's very telling how just last season, at the re-start after that long covid break, Lamela was clearly the offensive player Mou liked the least. But now he's having more minutes than both Dele and Bergwijn, and soon enough I think he will be overtaking Moura in that regard too.

This speaks so highly of both Lamela, who has never complained publicly about the amount of play minutes he gets, and Mourinho, who keeps showing he's willing to change his mind about players when they give him good reasons to do so.

Apparently the Man Utd dressing room was fractured over the Martial red card and "furious with Lamela" at half time, which makes his substitution even funnier because their players didn't even have a chance to get their own back after the break. He literally annoyed them to the point of self-destruct for 45 mins and then chilled on the bench and watched it burn.

Haha he sure did.

The best thing about this, for me, is that how United were more focused on wanting to get back at Lamela than being strategic.

If one player from the opposition is able to rile the opposition than that can be a sign of fragile mentality.

United's discipline in the second half was shocking, Shaw scathing down Lucas, Bailly raking shins of Son and stamping on Harry. That's a sign of fragile mentality in those circumstances.

It'll work in our favour in future too as United will come for revenge against Lamela yet if we are smart and focused it'll end up doing them more damage then good.

Boy, it's nice to be the team with the shithouser in for once.

Exactly what Fergie used to always employ as a tactic, get in the face, irritate and push opposition players to the brink, and target some more than others, to make them do something rash and mainly to put them off their game and concentration. Jose has also always employed this tactic and Lamela is natural at it and in a good way. United cant complain about anything, theyve done it for years, atm they 'fracture ' opposition teams by Penandes's diving & play acting ??

He has generally fought his way back into the starting XI every time he has stayed fit for more than a couple of months. At time he's displaced Son (with Eriksen/Dele moving to cut in from the left) and caused Dele / Eriksen to be moved to a deeper CM role.

I can see him earning his place ahead of Moura, but Bale is another matter...

Hopefully enough of our players remember the Chelsea game in 2016 to not fall into the same trap themselves.

That's where Jose's guidance comes in.

And I'm sure he'll have Dier and Kane in the dressing room to tell them to keep players focused on the pitch.

Yep! Somehow it's more acceptable to dive over an imaginary trip, or initiate contact, than it is to go down dramatically after being struck in the face - even though one is to fool the ref into thinking there was an infringement and the other is only to ensure the ref doesn't overlook an infringement.
If Fernandes was a Spurs player, he'd quickly break Bales record as the PL player with most bookings for simulation in one season. Of course all teams are treated equally though ;)

It's brilliant. It has to have been one of the factors that led to his substitution (along with the fact that he was already on a yellow). Maybe Mourinho sensed United's mood in the tunnel or heard it was kicking off in the dressing room and withdrew him for his own safety. Both to prevent them lot from baiting him into a second yellow and for his actual safety, United had lost the plot so badly I reckon there would've been some nasty challenges, and worse ones than those that actually took place. If there's one thing Souness was right about it was that United should've had at least 2 maybe 3 more players sent off (Bailly on Kane, Pogba on Hojbjerg, Shaw on Moura). That Shaw one pisses me off the more I think about it after the horrific injury he himself suffered a few years ago. If Lamela had been on the pitch it would've been like a red flag to a bull.

I want to believe Levy and Mou are only waiting to see how Lamela does fitness wise this season before committing to a new deal. I hope this season they agree new deals for Lloris, Son and Lamela.

Bailly’s stamp on Harry was 100% intentional and should have been a straight red.

He didn't featured on today's training pictures, and he didn't made any ig posts today. I fear the worst.

Also, why is this thread still on transfer rumors?

The whistle went before Lamela went down. His going down had nothing to do with the referee's decision to send Martial off.

Won't post the image as I'm not sure how the copyright works but he's in the most recent training photos with the rest of the squad.

Thank you for the heads up! This is so embarrassing, it reminded me a few years ago when I had this massive crush over this girl living at the other side of the world, and I would freak out a bit if she went a few days without texting me or making a social media post or something (and I'm one of those who don't really spend much time over social media and who kinda hate it actually). :D
