We shouldn't expect the club to spend all the money available just for the sake of it. In other words signing Lenglet doesn't necessarily mean we'll spend big on other signings. It just allows us the money too if required. It would be silly just to spend on the highest value players over getting a bargain, it's all about the player and what they can bring.

This is very good point. There seems to be a notion on here because we've had a cash injection that means we have to spend every single penny of the £150m. When in reality it was never claimed that it was our total budget that all had to be spent. More that it allowed us 'flexibility in the market'.

IMO it really doesn't matter how much or how little we spend. It's just imperative that we get the right players for Conte's system. If Lenglet fits, he fits.

Lyall is covering bases there, "perhaps one, or just one left footer". I'm convinced that we are looking to sign two CBs, and Lenglet will be depth / cover.

There is surely at least one big money signing we will do at CB

Tifo Football often produce good videos regarding sensible signings. Last January, they had made one about us and mentioned Lenglet as a potential sensible signing for us. I found their reasoning as to whether he would be a good suit for us or not quite interesting and thought I would share. They start to talk about him at minute 5.

I think he's going to struggle at LCB. He looks fairly slow compared to our other targets and imo more suited to sitting in the central CB position.

My quick google seems to suggest he is not fast, tends to like to grapple but can't do that so much with VAR and so feels under pressure and has lost his confidence. Also mentions pairing with an older CB means he is defending more often deeper in the box which invites pressure. A new set up might help but whether he has ability to deal with fast paced prem without going to grapple...?

While I have my reservations about this signing, I'm desperately hoping that if we are going for him, then we are doing so only because we'll be getting Gleison Bremer as well.

For all his ball playing qualities aside, he needs an assured and competent defender beside him.

NOTE: This is not to say that I'm against this signing in any way. I'm certain that Conte knows what he's doing and his loan signing could buy us a season's worth of time to go for a proper quality LCB like Gvardiol.

I am all for it, simply because everyone else is against it. I don't know why the club bothers with scouts etc, sack them all and just come here, so many top-notch scouts and tacticians.
