IMO, playing with a 10 who contributes nothing defensively weakens us too much. We're much harder to get through with 3 in midfield and the only time we can afford a conventional 10 is when the opposition pose no threat. Eriksen's decline coincided with the gradual loss of Dembele and Wanyama who could hold their own in a CM2 and get the ball to him in dangerous areas. We don't have a pair of players yet who can do that reliably. Add to that the fact that Eriksen was so determined to get away and I really can't see any reason to have him back, especially with the form (?) he's been in.

has he really been that bad there? when you see how the likes of ashley young and lukaku have done you'd have thought eriksen would have no problem but i guess not. he has been playing 50+ game seasons for 10 years straight now though as he broke through very early at 17 so that's a lot of mileage, seems he just peaked earlier than typical rather than him "downing tools" like a lot of fans thought when his form started to decline.

I think him possibly being on the decline is a fair argument but it's him not really fitting Conte's system too. I've read Inter fans just simply thinking he's shit and liking the thought of moving him on but I've also seen some hoping he just outlasts Conte and that they'll see a different him, similar to Skriniar in that case.

rumours again today Inter have offered him back to us

Ah great, a rock solid link from... FootballInsider247...

He's not coming back, move on. Some of you people must be the type that text your ex every couple weeks and think she actually might miss you.

She would never miss me...

A bit like Eriksen, when we were together out walking, as soon as we got to a corner i would hit the first man i saw. :cautious:

agree with this and think he'll be a very good player again at the right club and under the right coach, somewhere like Dortmund

I think he's (playing well) the missing piece to be honest. We miss a genuine creative and attacking 10. Gio and Nmdombele are fantastic midfielders but neither seem capable of relentlessly picking the right pass. I love watching Kane playing deep and taking up that role, but I would much prefer him playing as true centre forward.

We had Modric in that role, then Erikson and I still feel we need that spark of genius behind Kane.

I know I'm very much in the minority. And if it's not Erikson, I still feel this is the one area where we're missing something.

If we want to win trophies we need players with strong mentality, something he is lacking at the moment. Still wouldn't mind him if price was right because we lack creativity and Lo Celso is always injured.

I remember his international debut against England and people raving about him.

That was 10 years ago. That's how long he's been around yet he's still under 30 so I wouldn't be surprised if you're right and he peaked earlier

Not that it changes your point, if anything it enhances it, but he'd already made two appearances in the World Cup before that England match.
