Yeah the "he covers the most distance" argument is rather tiresome to be honest.

The guy is a cracking player, that can not be denied. Anyone who does deny it is just a dick.

But he needs to have the added bonus of things like tackling & tenacity to make all that running worthwhile.

Mo Farah could sign for us & cover the most distance.
Based on recent reports, Mo Farah would probably be happy to get stuck in and chin the opposition

I agree to an extent but even with all the growth we can't compete with the Spanish giants - they're on a whole other level and will continue to be barring a hilarious Utd-esque prolonged fall from grace.

Even Utd in their pomp couldn't hold onto Ronaldo.

Oh yes, there's nothing to be done about megastars, but it might shift the attitude of every promising player who comes our way. We may well be a more serious long-term prospect in prospective players' eyes, compared to half a decade or so ago, which is an attitude that still endures within some corners of the squad I feel. I fresh outlook for the next chapter is potentially needed for sustained growth.

Messi doesn't tackle.

Hazard doesn't tackle.

Ozil doesn't tackle.

Ousmane Dembele doesn't tackle; neither does Isco; Asensio not really; Bale; Ronaldo; Lo Celso... (etc etc etc)

Eriksen is, and always has been, a vital part of our forward press EVEN THOUGH he doesn't go hard in the tackle. BECAUSE HIS WORK RATE MATTERS!

This "take" that Eriksen needs to be defined by Kante like tackling is the stupidest fucking thing I've ever seen and could only be made by jilted lovers so enraged they make themselves look like fucking idiots.

Just stop now. Please. It's embarrassing.

He's been a great servant for our club and has helped us to heights undreamed of before. He will be a great loss BUT we will both go on.

Just celebrate that ffs

I don’t think that’s worrying at all, we all know that we’re not getting to the final year in year out

neither do Madrid, the current Madrid team finished well below us in UCL , sure they have a great record from the past, but thats not where they are now

we just achieved something that the club has never achieved in its history and we are looking to spend big and form a much stronger squad.

I get that Eriksen wants a new challenge and good luck to him but I dont buy into any this Madrid worship by some people here still living in the past.

I may be bias but I think we are every bit as good a prospect as Madrid currently, they may pay higher wages but they dont have our manager or our new stadium and Madrid dont scare me like they used to.

I'd have no issues having them in our group stage next season.

I think Eriksen has gone about things the right way so far. Not kicked up a stink, said he is open to a fresh challenge while not writing off signing a new contract with us if a step up from us isn't available.

However, if this "Tier 1" journo's info is correct, then surely as a professional it must have an effect knowing that the only way he's getting to Madrid is by their preferred options not signing?

As far as ambition goes isn't it better being our first choice and trying to do something that the club has never done before, or be second or third choice for Madrid and follow the well trodden path of collecting trophies which have effectively been bought for them by the national banks?

If he stays or goes I will still have respect for him, these were just my own personal musings after trying to put myself in his doubtless talented shoes

What about Son, Lamela, Kane, Dele? Why can’t you comprehend that there’s an enormous middle ground between Kante and a guy that would rather give away possession just to avoid any contact?

Who gives a fuck if Lamela puts his foot in if he's not half as good as Eriksen?

Son? Are you kidding me? He's as soft in the tackle as Eriksen and nowhere NEAR as hardworking or disciplined as part of our forward press. Same goes for Dele who might be rasher in some tackles but WAY less disciplined both in tackle and in press.

Yes, Lamela is ferocious in the tackle but he's hardly a comparison as a first starter is he? And I love the bloke.

Kane's great in the tackle and it's costing him his career.

So, no - I don't accept there's a middle ground. I think it's being wildly overstated by people who are finding fault in the one weakness a player has and are tarnishing his entire experience with us because of it.

It's bullshit. And I'm calling it out.

You're just trolling now?

%73 tackle success. Given the debate we are having.

He's not a CM you know? Right?

Ffs.
That’s his total since he joined, it was 61% and 57% last 2 years. For this season his stats are his worst since his first season in every category but 1

And how does that correlate with his peers this season?

But maybe you’re right and he’s just shit. Whatever makes you feel better hey?

You’ve forgotten what I said in my first post obviously
That he doesn’t have to be Sissoko? Or the one where you said Son and Dele were better exponents of ferocious tackling and defensive intent?

My point is he’s never been great in the tackle but he’s been one of our very best in our press (when we deploy it) - you don’t seem to want to accept that. We’ll have to agree to disagree

Ozil has won 232 50/50s in 166 games, that fact alone tells you everything you need to know.

And that bubble fish also has a 71% tackling success rate yet is universally considered the biggest and laziest p***y in the EPL.
