for £12m new Torres partner

Liverpool - Peter Crouch in fresh link to Anfield switch

Liverpool are being linked with a shock move for former striker Peter Crouch.

The 29-year-old left the Reds for Portsmouth for a reported fee of £11 million in 2008 after three eventful years at Anfield.

But now it appears Liverpool are considering bringing the Spurs star back to Merseyside as they search desperately for striking reinforcements.

It had initially been reported by the Daily Star that Liverpool were keeping tabs on the England international and now, according to caughtoffside.com, Spurs would be willing to entertain offers of £10-12 million for the ex-Southampton forward.

Crouch is just one of several names to have been linked with a January move to Liverpool as Roy Hodgson steps up his pursuit of a new strike partner for Anfield star Fernando Torres.

The Liverpool boss has frequently admitted his intention to bring more potent attacking options to Anfield when the transfer window opens in order to ease the burden on Torres and Reds captain Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool have also been linked with moves for Bayern Munich hotshot Mario Gomez and Bolton ace Johan Elmander as new Reds owners NESV look to back their manager in the transfer market.

Hodgson will reportedly have upwards of £20 million to spend next month on new recruits as he and NESV aim to transform fortunes at Liverpool.

Crouchy is an enigma, I've kinda grown fond of him as he does pop up with important goals but if his EPL form doesn't improve he might not get to light up the CL again so that being said I wouldn't be to fussed selling him for 12 mil and getting Carroll in for 15-20mil. Doubt it will happen though in january.

Just after he said he wants to finish his career at Spurs. Another one to be filed under "Bullshit".
Harry knows he needs a new striker but I'm sure he also knows that Crouch is a great plan B even if he doesnt start.

I wouldn't sell him this season. I'd replace Keane in January, keep Crouch for the remainder of the season. He's doing well enough in the Champions League adn we dont want to make too many changes up front in January. But i'd be happy enough to replace him next summer for a better number 9. A young technically gifted striker like Kalinic.

Can't see Harry selling him in the near future. Keane will surely leave first, and it wouldn't surprise me if Pavlyuchenko did too.

I'd say Crouch is probably one of the most under-rated strikers in the game these days.

I think Harry does know this, don't think he'll be sold.

If you have a squad with three or four strikers he will always be a t'rrfiic option. Hope he stays. Keane + Bentley + Niko + O'Hara + GDS all going before consider losing Crouch.

With VDV we don't need four strikers.

We can sell Keane and not replace him.

If we find a striker that we believe is a step above what we already have then Crouch is probably the next to be sold.

Crouch is maybe under rated by his own fans but very much over rated by those who do not watch him week in week out in my opinion.

He is a hard worker and offers more than many Spurs fans give him credit, but those who only see the odd highlight of him assisting for VDV or see him scoring for ENgland or in the CL certainly have a higher opinion of him than his general play warrants I feel.

If we were offered £12m for him and able to bring in a striker of suitable quality plus Elmander to bolster the squad I would happily bite Liverpool's hand off for the money. It would weaken us in Europe assuming the new super striker was CL cup tied but Pav and Elmander with Defoe as starter alongside VDV would be more than enough.

Crouch and Keane out with Elamander and someone of Benzema quality coming in would represent excellent business for this transfer window I feel and be the best case scenario from what I can see.

I would keep Crouchie for this season, if only for the CL where he crazily effective. Move him on in the summer and upgrade.

Or qualify for the Champions League again, then keep him when he will still be crazily effective.

'Move him on in the summer and upgrade' could be said for every single one of our strikers.

Sell Keane whatever as he is just an extra player wiht no place in our first team squad. If we find a striker of the right ability then great but whether we do or not we should keep Defoe, Pav and Crouch for the rest of this season.
