So anonymous that he scored the winning goal in the semis, has been rated the third best player in the tournament and (Lawro excluded) has been praised by fans, pundits and colleagues.

dempsey's scored a few winning goals, doesn't mean he hasn't been invisible for the other 89 minutes.

He's the type of player that isn't flashy and fulfills his role perfectly yet take him out the team and you have a big void to fill.

pass the ball would be nice.

if this guy wasn't linked to spurs then no one on here would be saying lets slap £17m down for him.

I'll admit that he did come out of nowhere, but if you watch the games, you can see how well he just absolutely bossed the midfield.

Strengths: Athleticism, positioning, ball-winning, toughness
Weaknesses: A quick-whistled ref might take him out of his preferred style

Are you for real? Serious question. Seems to me you havn't been watching him that closely and are just feeding off a few tossers in the media.

Being an American Yid, Dempsey is admittedly a hero of mine so I might be biased, but...

...I am floored by this statement. I do see how CD is slagged on here and I have been wondering (honest question, not trying to be a smart ass) - does he get closer scrutiny because he's a Yank? If he were European, would the opinion on him differ at all?

Just curious.

i don't see a £17m player in there. i agree with whoever said he's like a box-to-box version of dempsey, doesn't really do anything but is capable of getting a goal, he's played four games and been completely anonymous in all of them.

How dare you speak ill of our new potential superstar signing who 90% of people on here didn't know existed until he scored against England.

I don't think it's that. There's a mixture of reasons I guess, but I imagine a big part of it is that we signed him on the same day as we sold VDV, and (apparently) missed out on Moutinho. There was a real feeling of the window being an anti-climax, and Dempsey was just a bit unlucky to be seen as a step down. I honestly think if Rafa had stayed, or we'd signed Moutinho, Dempsey would have been greeted more positively.

There are other things of course....his body language, the fact that he was played out of position, maybe even the way he left Fulham. I really don't think it has anything to do with his nationality - look how Jenas, Defoe, Walker, Hudd, and Dawson get treated.

I'm pretty sure that's part of it for some people, there's always been a stereotype that Americans are rubbish at football. It's not true obviously and Dempsey has been one of the better players in the PL in the last few years. I'm not saying anyone on this thread thinks this way but there are some people in England in general who do.

Some people just don't rate him and that's fair enough, there's a long debate on the suject in the 'Dempsey is good at?' thread in Spurs Chat...

This guy would become my all-time favorite with a simple statement

Spurs are in negotiations with Halilovic and Jedvaj. I can confirm that. But it NOT a done deal yet.
