Paulinho understands and has played in many local derbies for Corinthians vs Sao Paulo; vs Cruzeiro etc where the intensity of the game and the rivalry between the supporters is just as fierce as in the NLD.

I think the likes of Daws and Lennon and Defoe let the new lads know what this game is all about. They already know the passion thanks to being on social media. Sounds like we're well up for it.

Just as fierce? Don't undersell how crazy passionate South American rivalries can get...

More fierce there I'd say!

No he didnt get it, judging from his game today. Yeah you might say hes still trying to gel, but he didnt play like it was a fierce derby and that cant be excused im afraid. In fact he looked overawed by the occasion. You would've expected him to be more positive and really take the game to arsenal, but sadly he wasnt. Thats why I hate these positive pre-match talks. They very rarely are reflected when the match comes on.

In fairness to him as a newbie, he needs the experienced players to do their bit. It was pretty chaotic at times. I think Sandro is the key to this gelling process, he needs to be our general.

Paulinho certainly didn't play like he "gets it". So negative. Constantly passed the ball backwards and didn't even attempt to run with the ball. Worst match i've seen him play. I think the occasion got to him and he played scared. Disappointing :(.

To me Paulinho is similar to modric in the way he moves the ball. He is very tidy and always wants it into his feet. He hasnt struck me as particularly combative but he has just arrived in arguably the most ferocious league in the world. Give the guy some time and I am confident he will come good.
