They're welcome to him for that much - the guy he replaced scored the identical amount of goals the season he left and moved to Brighton for £10 million less - not as much clamor for him - swings and roundabouts mate.

i'll be astounded if Watkins hits 15 goals next season. If we were paying that much for him, I would want a return like that.

Don’t agree with you but we will wait and see who is correct.
You think we should have forked out the £28 m + 5 for him? That's cool. Me being correct would be horrid for Watkins I am sure. I hope he'll forgive me if he fails.

I have not see much of him as a player but his reputation of dishing out hateful vengeance against those who don’t believe in him is well known and shouldn’t be under estimated.

I think we should have made sure he didn’t want to go anywhere else than Spurs. Then we agree the price whatever that would be. I don’t think we convinced him. If we had the price would have been cheaper than villa paid.

I can't get excited about Diallo. Jimenez would be incredible but as you say unlikely Wolves would sell or at least would command a big fee. Personally I hope there's real interest in Patson Daka, who looks a cut above everyone else - young, pacy, great technique, and can come and compete immediately, not just a back-up for Kane

There’s part of me thinking Wolves have a certain ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Mendes for any of his clients, where they get a player for a reasonable price that they otherwise would've had no chance getting but when Mendes wants to move them on, they kind of have to accept for reasonable terms, like Doherty.

Yeah, I watched plenty of him over the course of the early part of last season, when I did ask for his autograph early last season he took my book, tore it up and spat on hit. This wasn't reported in the news as I was made an honorary mascot for a day down there, when they found out I was a Spurs fan, they claimed I was illegally scouting their players and I was told to leave and also leave my autograph book as what it clearly was, was my scouting notes.

Sadly I still quite like Brentford and Ollie Watkins is a tidy football player, sadly I may have cursed him twice inside a year ...

I guess we held a solid interest in him, more so than Wilson perhaps going by all the reports in the last 24-48 hours. I do think that Dean Smith and the prospect of being, most likely, the first striker on the team sheet helped in his decision making. We all know the stories of Spurs dallying in some transfer dealings over the years, both calamitous and frustrating in equal measure. I reackon Villa have greased the wheels on this one as well - which again frustratingly isn't in old baldies MO ...

Hopefully whoever else we have in (ducks in a row) isn't too far off. I'm jaded by previous windows so in that, I'll wait and see before jumping (pitchfork in hand)

It is n
He'll want a big tall strong fast striker who can hold the ball up, bring others into play and also score goals aka Drogba, D.Costa etc

The closest i've seen from who we've been linked with is Habib Diallo(unproven in prem) or R.Jiminez(29 and unlikely Wolves would sell) or Milik(waiting on Juve).

O.Watkins would've ticked a lot of boxes for Jose but not sure he's quite big and strong enough for what Jose wants and more importnatly he's probably too expensive / overpriced for our tastes.

I was suprised by ITK of us being linked with Ings, brilliant player but doesn't see like a Jose type of player at all.

Absolutely this. I think the links to Wilson and Watkins were no more than opportunistic enquires based around HG status and potential low fees, more so than actual stylistic fit. Once the fees started to look not so low we appear to have backed out a bit sharpish as we werenr prepared to go all in on someone who didn’t tick all (or most of) the boxes, pace yes, but physical presence and ability to bully defenders and hold the ball up, not so much.
This moves us onto non HG options now, which will perhaps require other pieces of the puzzle to be juggled first. Jiminez just looks a touch expensive at 29yrs old, based on our usual MO. Millik, seems to be Jose’s favourite, but don’t think we’re his first choice. This brings us onto the two names that seem to be hot favourites on here and in the media. Daka and Diallo. I’d be faily relaxed about either, they’d both add to what we have currently due their rounded physical and technical skills. Physical presence enough to not be left on the periphery like Njie and Nkoudou, even Janssen and Soldado, but also more mobile than Llorente.
Daka could provide the double whammy of being able to play wider also, but I still get a feeling we’ll add an additional wide player aswell if Lamela leaves, that’s where I wonder if Leao may come into the picture.
