Saw this the other night, it's quite a big deal as I imagine Poch would have had to talk Levy out of quite a lucrative deal for us to go on tour. I'm not sure how much money we made out of the USA trips in recent years but it's not peanuts.

The obvious downside is that our incredibly loyal overseas fans will miss out this summer. I'm sure we'll make it up to them in the future though and if this helps us get off to a better start to the new season then it's good for everyone.

As a Yank, my selfish side is disappointed they won't be coming back to New York but I think this is a great decision. We have so many young players to blood in and Poch will need the time to decide who can stay and who needs a loan, etc. With the new stadium definitely in the works and now this it seems like Levy and Co. are reading this forum and are intent on trolling the anti-ENIC brigade. On the other hand, we'll have no excuses next year and that makes me nervous as a Spurs fan. What diabolical force will I blame if we muck it up again?

Just what I was thinking, they might blame the lack of new signings if we only sign a player or two of squad ability.

I'm all sad now- I heard they were coming all the way to China and now I won't get to see them play in a torrential rainstorm, 1000's of miles from London for a meaningless cup. :cautious:
This really seems like the board are supporting the management team - this gives me a warm feeling and next season really could be something special with or without Euro football.

I think it's a good thing to give Poch as much time as possible to integrate any new signing or the kids who are to be promoted to the first team squad.

Definitely something I think poch would have had to convince levy not to do, if that's the case then it's a big statement of trust that levy has in poch to grant his request not to have a pre season tour, which is great to know.

Shame not to be progressing our international appeal but great news all the same. Everything is just feeling right about the club at the moment absolutely love it

This is great news. Let's hope we get new signings in early as well.

Agreed. Would like to see it be a set policy for the future that in odd year summers, i.e. in which there's no Euro or World Cup, we should look to take advantage. No preseason tours, get business done quickly, get the team working together and focused in preseason ASAP.

Poch needs time to work with his squad, figure out which of our talented youth and returning loan players are ready to step up to the senior side, and integrate any new signings we make. Levy and Baldini need time to sell as many of our deadwood players as possible. And the squad needs time to rest and recover after four competitions. Jetting around another continent just doesn't make sense this year, we'll gain far more fans abroad by being a more competitive and entertaining team next season than we would through any tour.

Nothing will progress our international appeal more than performing when it matters, and putting in time on the training pitch instead of driving around the USA will do just that.
