According to latest rumours coming from UK sources, Tottenham management are ready to submit Benfica a 25 million euros offer in order to purchase Argentinian international offensive midfielder and winger Nicolas Gaitan (26). Playing for Portuguese giants since 2010/11, former Boca Juniors player, not equipped with a second EU passport, is currently on a deal with them until June 2016, and Aguias will probably give suitors a hard time once more.

He is a great player, doubt we will get him. He'll end up at one of the bigger clubs.

I don't know...the market is flooded with left wingers, many of whom are seeking moves.

According to transfermarkt, he's the 15th most valuable left winger, whilst we're the 13th most valuable club.

Here's the list of clubs above us/just below us, and their wing options:

1. Barcelona - Neymar/Pedro/Sanchez/Tello/Cuenca/Afellay/Deulofeu
2. Real Madrid - Bale/Ronaldo/Isco/Jese
3. Bayern Munich - Ribery/Robben/Shaqiri/Green
4. Manchester City - Silva/Nasri/Jovetic
5. Chelsea - Hazard/Schurrle/Willian/Salah/Piazon
6. Manchester United - Mata/Janujaz/Young/Nani/Kagawa/Welbeck
7. PSG - Lavezzi/Menez/Lucas/Pastore
8. Arsenal - Cazorla/Podolski/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Gnabry/Walcott
9. Juventus - Play with wing-back's rather than wingers.
10. Borussia Dortmund - Reus/Grosskreutz/Aubameyang/Blasz/Hofmann
11. Liverpool - Coutinho/Sterling/Luis Alberto
12. Atletico - Turan/Rodriguez/Sosa/Adrian/Garcia
13. Tottenham Hotspur - Lamela/Chadli/Townsend/Lennon
14. Napoli - Mertens/Insigne/Callejon/Bariti
15. Inter Milan - Play with wing-back's rather than wingers.
16. AC Milan - El Shawaary/Robinho/Taarabt/Birsa/
17. Monaco - Rodriguez/Ocampos/Carrasco/Dirar

The clubs I'd expect to be actively searching for left wing options are primarily PSG and Liverpool. You can't rule out Manchester City and Monaco splashing the cash either. Juventus and Inter don't have many LW options but both play formations which don't utilise wingers. For the sake of the argument, I'll say both could be in the market for left-wing options. Should Manchester United sell a load of players, they could be in the hunt too.

So you've got:

1. PSG
2. Man City
3. Man Utd
4. Liverpool
5. Juventus
6. Inter Milan
7. Monaco
8. Tottenham

As far as players not already at the clubs above go, you've got:

1. Griezmann
2. Draxler
3. Bernard
4. Gaitan
5. Muniain
6. Konoplyanka
7. Yarmolenko
8. Heung-Min Son
9. Cuadrado
10. Volland
11. Tadic
12. Ayew
13. Salvio
14. Dzagoev
15. Valbuena
16. Lallana
17. J. Rodriguez

All of whom would offer us quality at LW.

PSG seem nailed of to go for Griezmann, and Liverpool for Lallana. You'd have to think Man City will set their sights higher than Gaitan if they do move for a player in that position. Man Utd could be the biggest threat for his services, but that leaves the likes of Konoplyanka available. We can compete with the likes of Inter Milan financially and in footballing terms, whilst we surpass Monaco in footballing terms, but not in terms of financial clout. Juventus, if they do decide to go for a winger, could outmuscle us, but there are still lots of options available.

Other players will become available too, from bigger clubs - E.g. Lavezzi from PSG if they get Griezmann.

Basically, there is no excuse for us not upgrading our LW position this summer, with a number of quality players seeking moves.

Would no doubt (on paper at least) solve our left wing problem.
If we could get him is a completely different matter however.

Gaitan-Eriksen-Lamela

behind the striker would be very good!

Like I said in another thread: players in the Portugeuse league must be some of the most over-priced players in teh world.
When considering value-for-money they come out poorly. Apart from Ronaldo, who else from Primeira Liga? Coentrao has done fairly well at Real M. yes, but not worth the 30m they paid for him. Moutinho has done ok at Monaco but for 30M he has not really been worth it (so far). And the list goes on...
I remember back in the days when Spurs were looking at Miguel Veloso and was quoted aprx 25M. A few years later he went for 6M.

Because they are all owned by third parties who want insane amounts of money

Di Maria, though, has lived up to it.

Gaitan is nowhere near the player Di Maria was though, and for a bigger price tag, I say stay away.

I was thinking of posting this rumour story yesterday; Rumour was we offered 37m Euros for Gaitan(25m) & Enzo Perez (12m); Rumour came from Caughtoffside, which has no credibility;

Abola.pt, Portugese media reposted saying, news from "UK sources"

Portugeuese Journo's reacted with below tweet

Enzo Perez and Gaitan to Tottenham for 37m€? NOT going to happen. #Spurs

IMO, looks a non-starter to me.
