The thing that stands out to me is that he was seen as the next big thing in Italy. His potential is still huge but he hasnt been used correctly at Roma - often played out of position (Jose used him as a CF at one point). If Conte can get the best out of him then our forward options would be ridiculous.
When I watched him play I thought he would be better suited upfront

Kulusevski -
Serie A - 94 matches - 15 goals 15 assists
Premier League - 28 matches - 6 goals 13 assists
Champions League - 13 matches - 1 goal 1 assist
Total - 135 matches - 22 goals, 29 assists (.16G, .21A per match)

Zaniolo -
Serie A - 93 matches - 13 goals 10 assists
Europa League - 10 matches - 3 goals 4 assists
Conference League - 10 matches - 5 goals 3 assists
Champions League - 7 matches - 2 goals 0 assists
Total - 120 matches - 23 goals, 17 assists (.19G, .14A per match)

Reaffirms that we should give him a chance under Conte and in his system if he comes

I just trust FP and AC now tbh. They both know what we need and the type of player we need. Many were furious with Kulu when we signed him and now he's one of our most important players. Zaniolo I'm sure will finally fulfill his potential under AC if we were to bring him in.

I suspect Roma would be willing sellers this window. With 18 months on his contract and the player in poor form, being played out of position and unlikely to turn things around over the second half of the season, the value he'd command in the summer is likely to be very low. Offer them a reasonable price now and I bet they'd take it.

Why would we? We have one of the better injury rates/recovery stats in the league, thanks to them. These off-hand comments about our medical teams supposed inefficiency always makes me  the issue is we don't have enough quality players/ a system that doesn't rely heavily on our quality players, to off-set our starters who unfortunately get injured.

You're just no fun at all. Spoiling it for all those who are never happier than when they're miserable

Agreed. One would think that something in the region of 30/35 mil would maybe get him now. Considering his age and potential that would probably be fair.

I am not loving this deal to be honest
Which I can understand, especially at face value. But although it’s not the Mudryk or Felix type signing we would all love, Zaniolo is very clearly loved by both Paratici and Conte and they both have a lot of belief in him. That in itself is more than enough for me aside from the fact he is actually very talented. Plus his value will likely be cheaper then any other potential targets and would hopefully allow us to get Porro. I get that it’s not a clear upgrade and there is obviously some risk involved, but he has the potential to be a very good player and if anyone can turn him into the superstar he could be it’s Conte.

This isn’t even really a position where we require an “upgrade” anyway. Kulusevski is a top young player who could well be our next star after Kane and Son have aged or moved on.

What we need is an adequate rotation option who can step in and provide some chance creation from the right when Kulusevski is unavailable.

If Conte believes the player is capable of filling the role and his current poor form is a product of his being misused, and we’re able to get him in for a reasonable price that keeps our powder dry for important signings elsewhere in the squad, then I’m all for it.

I completely agree, although I do believe that Zaniolo will be challenging for a starting spot before too long. Which is the ideal situation.

Think he could be a really nice addition. My biggest concern here is just that I think likelihood of Roma letting him go this window (and him wanting to come) at a price/structure that’s decent is highly unlikely yet I can see us putting all our eggs in this basket again like we seemed to do in the summer at this position

Yes, which is Conte's way also - in preseason he said there should be no "back-ups" and it should be a battle - that's how all the top clubs are. I personally wanted both someone like Zaha in the Summer and Zaniolo because it made our front 6 go from:

Son/Richarlison - Kane/Richarlison - Kulu/Lucas/Gil

to

Son/Zaha - Kane/Richarlison - Kulu/Zaniolo

Yes, even to me it's a bit overkill. But looking back, Conte would have been able to play Zaha over Son during his struggles and each position would have two players fighting to start week in and week out, which only helps us.

a week ago in a interview:

Italian agent Massimo Brambati has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur came very close to signing Nicolo Zaniolo this summer.
He gave an interview to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb where he spoke about the AS Roma playmaker.

“Not for me [when asked if Jose Mourinho is the right coach for Zaniolo]. Tottenham were close to signing Zaniolo in the last transfer market, there was a meeting in August where the player, together with his father, met with Tottenham managers to go there. Conte probably would have pulled something more out of him.”

and Zaniolo agent from last interview about new contract with Roma.

How much money is Zaniolo worth and how much would he demand in terms of salary?

“You know I can’t talk about figures but they are not difficult to guess,” said Vigorelli.

“Roma valued Nicolò highly last summer and we will negotiate a new salary based on the club’s evaluation. Nothing more, nothing less.”

According to the report, Roma valued the 23-year-old at €50-60m in July, so Vigorelli will ask for circa €4m per season. Several clubs are keeping an eye on the Italy international, including Milan, Napoli and Tottenham.

Can someone point me in the direction of a post/website that has stats (xG xA etc) for this season/12 months please? I'm not good at finding good ones online.
I looked a lot into him when we were linked in previous windows but how has he faired since then?
One thing that people were put off hy was his injury record, has his missed any games this season so far? Thanks

Injury prone, with close to 1 1/2 seasons out with serious knee issues. Plays mainly on the wing (not a priority area) and stats on end product very poor.

Given how much of a tight arse our chairman is, doesn't this just strike you as a complete waste of money?

@Roberts84
What do you disagree with, the fact that he's injury prone, doesn't play a priority position, has bad end product or seems like a waste of our limited resources? Genuinely interested in what you think

Understat.com is the best free website that gives you xG stats for the biggest leagues (including player stats).

Transfermarkt is the best for injuries - google “injury history Zaniolo” and you should find it.
