POK has said this a few times through conversation over the last couple days. Opinion based but I agree and wouldn't mind it.

Head of recruiting and Munn handling administration off a tradition DoF role so the focus of whoever is in that role is specifically player focused

I think it's a sensible option tbh, hopefully means we get some continuity with structure and don't rip everything up every five minutes.

Maldini leaving Milan...
His role there was officially Technical Director, but was more about identifying players and developing the squad. The sort of role we're probably after if it isn't going to be a fully fledged DOF.

Quite a few "experts" have commented that one of Postecoglou's strengths is his ability to recruit the right players for his system, so maybe we will be doing away with a DoF and head of recruitment.

Not convinced he's be a good option. He has a very scattergun approach with some really being successful and many bombing.

The general sports director of Sevilla has shown signs of exhaustion in a very difficult season in which he has received much criticism and has publicly acknowledged his mistakes. Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, Monchi , is the architect of Sevilla, champion up to seven times in the Europa League and who has won 11 titles and played in 21 finals since 2006.

The man from San Fernando, once the echoes of the celebration of the seventh Europa League have faded, has asked Sevilla's top management for a period of reflection to decide on his future, which, according to what 'Relevo' has published, is highly conditioned by certain frictions that have arisen in matters of a sporting nature that concern exclusively his field. The dismissal of Julen Lopetegui, the election of Jorge Sampaoli... also that of Mendilibar, have been matters in which an understanding between sports management and the presidency and vice presidency has not been easy.

Likewise, the sale of Koundé and Diego Carlos in the same market to balance the accounts was another thorny issue, among other things because the investment in their replacements was not as desired, as was later seen in the results. Monchi feels that he does not have full power in financial matters at the club and for this reason he plans to take a break or start another project that appeals to him.

In this sense, the first possible destinations are coming out in the Premier League. One of them, Tottenham, with whose management Monchi maintains excellent relations, as has been demonstrated in round-trip operations in recent years: Reguilón, Bryan Gil, Lamela or the return of Bryan Gil himself.

His current situation bears some similarity to his departure in 2017 for Rome, also the result of a series of situations such as mental exhaustion, lack of maneuverability in economic matters and some friction with the president, José Castro, who two years later would be the will rescue him after finishing his journey in Italy, not without offering him a million-dollar contract that, seen as seen, is not the only thing that moves one of the best recognized sports directors in the world

It’s too much for one guy to be a coach and in charge of recruitment these days. Sure, he’s got to be working closely with the DOF, but the constant emails, Whatsapps from agents and alike, it’ll break someone. There’s a reason every club in the top half of the PL has a DOF or Head of Recruitment.

Yea I don't see how Monchi and his recruitment approach is harmonious in between a Postecoglou-Munn axis.

Much more likely a Lee Dykes-esque/data analyst as part of a committee.

I don't care too much except whoever the fuck it is has the first job on their list of sorting out the medical department and bringing it up to a better standard than it current is at.

Whoever we bring in needs to be good at getting players out. Our squad is full of players who need to be moved on, and also considering we don’t have European football and may only play in 42ish games next season we really don’t need a particularly big squad. If we’re playing 433, at max we only need 4xCBs and 5xCMs. 4xfullbacks and maybe only 5 players for the front 3. Including GKs that’s only 20 first teamers. We must have close to 30 on the books once players all return from loan. So if we’re considering say 4 new signings who need to replace a current 4, you could be talking having to shift 14 players this summer to have a suitable and workable squad.

I hope not. It means we'll be up shits creek when he leaves. Or if his signings don't work out. We need a DOF to oversee recruitment and make sure signings work for the club first and foremost, so if Ange doesn't work out another manager can be parachuted in to coach the existing players.

We've flip flopped on managers and football directors so much I can't see the issue of just letting the manager crack on. We've had almost as many dof's as managers lately

The squad is in a mess because we've flip flopped.
@JUSTINSIGNAL isn't saying the manager doesn't get a say, he should have final say, what is hopefully happening here is that this is the start of a process where we build a squad and fit managers to the squad we have and the recruitment stays consistent, so player turnover on a huge scale isn't necessary, pretty certain Ange will have a big say in sorting this squad out but it's in the clubs best interest to have a recruitment specialist on board with the vision if Ange doesn't work out.

My point is dofs and managers leave just as frequent as each other so there is no consistency in either area. Just crack on with the manager.

Tbf, this has been the case with a DoF.

Maybe that will be Munn's responsibility, with Postecoglou just deciding who he wants to bring in with the assistance of player recommendations from the scouts.

Munn has zero recruitment experience, a limited knowledge of football, he’s a business guy, a manger of teams of people. We need a recruitment specialist in or risk falling further behind.
