Yeah I suppose if you're a neutral you could find it even more exciting with potentially 3 or 4 teams going into each season with a serious expectation of winning the league, rather than the usual 1 or 2.

No doubt it seems like very bad news for ourselves. It seems inevitable it will make things tougher. However we shouldn't be too disheartened. We've had our best seasons of the last thirty years since the money of the Chelsea and Man City owners came into the game. Likewise Liverpool have built arguably the best side in Europe whilst not being entirely bankrolled by owners ready to sink billions into the club.

I think there are few "neutrals" following PL without any form of allegiance.

Lower league supporters in the UK probably do, at least to a certain extent.

Foreign supporters will almost all have a club, otherwise they wouldn't have started watching in the first place.

Even lower league supporters would have some form of affiliation with a team I would think. It's quite difficult to follow something if you don't have personal stakes in it (i.e. like a club).

yep, i've seen since my post. Which begs my question as to how this is being allowed?
Well for one reason because there is no one to stop it - the clubs as a whole essentially regulate the buying and selling of clubs and another because our own government put aside their morals to do business with them. If truth be told, we all probably deal with them even if indirectly. Who knows what number of businesses they have interests in. I don't think that anyone on here has any time for their regime but that's the reality. Personally I'm pleased that we're not going down that road though.

If this goes through the arrogance of the geordies will be over and above anything we have seen before. let us remember that this is a fan-base that already believes they are a big club.

Howay PL, gizzuz a mint Saudi takeover for the lads.

Unless it is silly money on offer neither will set foot anywhere near Newcastle

News at the weekend that Newcastle will have to abide by FFP. So that will have significant impact on money they can spend. Certainly wont be able to do a Man City or Chelsea and spend £100's of millions on the team.

Not for the time being buy I fully expect them to get round the rules and start sponsoring themselves like Man City and PSG did, when you have that kind of money you can hire the best lawyers and accountants who know how to play the system and bypass the regulations.

Which is why I seriously hope City haven't got away with their misdemeanours. Hope UEFA can uphold the ban. Then the likes of Newcastle may think twice about it.

I'm agreeing with the opinions though regarding the PL and lower local clubs. My mentality is shifting and I'm starting to lose interest in the PL.

How would we feel if this was us? I get why Geordies are excited. A takeover like this is basically the only hope they have of becoming the big club they think they are.

But at what cost?

Personally, I don't think I'd want anything to do with a club used to sportswash a human rights hellhole like Saudi Arabia. Easier said than done though, and the fans don't have much say in any of this.

I'd go support Wycombe.

The fans do have a little sway. I doubt any sportswashing dictator would want the stadium filled with protesting fans. But the georides are excitedly rolling over to have their bellies tickled by this blood soaked despot.

After 13 years of Ashley I imagine some of them don't see the difference.

The governing bodies should be wise to all of that stuff now since Man City have tried every way to pump oil money into the club, and have now been caught. It's imperative that their punishment is upheld otherwise every competition might just as well be a cheque writing exercise.

Yeah, but Mike Ashley doesn’t have his critics chopped up in embassies.

The Premier League will have blood on their hands if they allow this.
It was meant as a tongue in cheek comment. I know that, and I agree with that, if Spurs had been taken over by someone like that I would give up and start supporting Wycombe full-time instead.

It's disgusting that it's being allowed and if it's stopped the only reason will be the Saudi involvement in pirate streaming of games ref: BEINs complaint, the actual awful things won't be part of the discussion.

Tbf, I work with Newcastle fans and have Newcastle fans as friends. No-one I've spoken to is trying to justify the new owners from a moral point of view but when you've spent years of abject misery with an owner like Ashley who has no interest in progressing the club then it is understandable that they would be open to it. Fortunately I can't see it ever happening with is simply because ENIC will want far too much money.

Give it a year or so and that will change.

Also RE Enic - justifiably so, a report has come out today stating that Spurs are the most valuable club in the league.

Oh yeah, of course, I'm not criticising ENIC for that - why would an investment company build an expensive stadium and then give the club away for a song? The model will continue to be maximising revenue from the stadium and seeking outside investment like the purported (fingers crossed) Amazon or Nike deal.
