The sad thing is I think there are just two clubs in the country whose supporters would not have welcomed this takeover more or less with open arms. Not coincidentally they're the two most successful clubs in our game's history. Liverpool and United would not have traded their histories and their future success for a deal like this. At least not without a fight.
I'm not sure about that. The hatred of the Glazers is as toxic as Newcastle's for Ashley. If the Saudis taking over meant getting rid of the Glazers I'd imagine a significant chunk of Utd fans would be in favour.

My posts are counterfactual?

and, can you stop editing your posts whilst I’m in the middle of replying to them

Yes.

Let me know as soon as you start replying and I'll committ to a ceasefire.

Either way, there were minutes between my edits and a lot longer between my edits and your one line replies.

I don't think that your argument is entirely unfair, tbh I don't know what I would do if Spurs were in that scenario but I feel we should accept that some people will walk away and take them at face value if they say that they will. I'm confident that there are examples of fans from clubs such as City that have lost interest or quit in protest.

I suppose turning the conversation towards a critique of fans that are disgusted instead of what it means for football or the unpleasantness of the regime and the motives for the Newcastle purchase feels like a trivial aside under the circumstances.
That’s a fair enough point.
People are much more upset about this than me.
Ive just grown more an more cynical and resigned to the sellout game the PL plays over the years. Much the same as FIFA and uefa.
it’s all one big money grab.
whilst I do think some of the comments are a bit dramatic I’m not trying to censor anyone

No mate you carry on.
I’ll just collect my prize for the most intellectually lazy argument ever birthed on the internet and cash out.

I mean it is. Twitter is full of it and I blame twitter for that particular hot take proliferating.

Maybe you’re right.
At first I felt elated that I’d won something.
but that quickly passed and now it feels rather meaningless

but anyway, onions and all that.

And thanks to @Spurs_1981 for giving me some perspective on the whole thing.

I remember a lot if people saying Abramnovich will get tired of chelsea and they will ho bankrupt once he withdraw his money

20 odd years on..he is still around and dishing out 3-0 beatings to dennis levy's team
That's true, people did. They'll never get bored because they are able to maintain a "respectable" image in the public and media's eyes unfortunately.

The only hope is for their riches to deplete.

Mate these oil states have known that the end of oil consumption as we know it has been coming for a long time, they've been pumping their billions into futureproof investments for decades.
Their riches won't just deplete just because we're all driving Teslas.

I'm sorry but these are two different things.

Enic and the way spurs are run aren't relevant compared to this lot but let's be clear. You can moan the club isn't investing in the playing side of things, you can moan about winning trophies, Levy, Lewis, the stadium being more important etc etc etc. None of that leads to the only alternative is a backward government owning us . None of it. You can criticise Levy without wanting a dodgy Russian ogliarch who got his money through at best shady means and you can say Lewis isn't interested without wanting to be used as a sportwashing exercise by a slightly nicer version of Saudi Arabia.

I believe enic are bad football club owners that doesn't mean I want or think the only alternative is for us to be owned by gangsters or worse

I don’t believe they are bad owners. Ashley was a bad owner, have you seen our stadium and training ground? We were in the CL finale a few years ago and now they are bad owners?

Simply put we can’t compete with the financially doped clubs plus the established clubs like Liverpool and United. So let’s not complain come the summer when we get outbid for our top targets. Except where we are

Is it the same people though? I know I have never moaned about us living within our means in the transfer forum. I can’t remember any of the other main contributors to this thread like Marty, Amo, Rossdapep etc doing it either.

Didn’t mention names there are loads of comments in here and the Enid thread with similar statements

Just to be clear.

Because some don't want Saudi Arabia with all their human rights abuses running the club we can't criticise ENIC?

Behave.

FWIW, right now the Toon fans are more relieved that the Ashley era is over. There's no sudden expectation of winning the league immediately.

Give them 5 years though.

I had to laugh yesterday:
I popped down the shops and I rarely listen to talk sport because Aids, but I thought id pop it on to hear what the fans were saying re the takeover.
One Newcastle fan rang in and said for the last few years he's been ashamed to support them, because of Ashley, but he was relieved now he'd gone and can finally feel proud to support the club again.

Astounding cognitive dissonance.
