why not either find a friend or someone that would take your seat at Wembley for the 1 season, or put the tickets on sale at stubhub at the recommend price, so you at least have the option to keep having a season ticket in the new stadium once it opens

only a suggestion
The only problem with that is, single ticket doesn't sell, I put my Everton ticket last year on stub hub, it didn't sell. so with 2 days to match I dropped it to £30, and the seat was empty for match. They need to be sold in pairs.

My son sits next to me, so maybe I will go down the route of selling both on Stubhub.

I've sold single tickets quite a few times, sold every time....sometimes you need to drop well below face value.
Getting a tenner for it is better than fuck all.

I don't go these days due to health, but I really feel for those that don't want the wembley season ticket due to the extra travel, pain in the arse to get to even from the North London area if you don't drive. the most annoying thing is if I was half better off with my mobility I would be willing to rent a season ticket for a year even though I would drive and have to park in the stadium C/P but they charge blue badges £15 i think

I really hope you guys get something sorted, it's such a shame the original scheme doesn't fit in with the new design meaning the move

I never realised that there had been an opportunity to redevelop one of the stands back in 2001 and that it could ultimately have led to the ground increasing to 55,000:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/competitions/premier-league/4777621/Tottenham-turned-down-Effenberg-and-Zidane.html

I attended meetings with the THFC board back then and the "plan" never got beyond a very preliminary consultation stage before the economics and logistics ruled it out.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Interesting. I note that Yawetz sadly died earlier in the year. I remember him from the time when Sugar and Venables took over.

There were many ideas and thoughts about redevelopment over the years

It is a disgrace that a club like ours has had such a small attendance for so many years

I always wanted us to redevelop and there were many chances to get the stadium to around 50k

The new stadium will undoubtedly be amazing but it will never be able to replicate the atmosphere WHL had and still has sometimes

The trouble is that none of the ideas for increasing the capacity of the existing stadium were practical.

The West Stand is one of the most inefficient stands in the country and way too small in capacity and would need to be completely rebuilt. So too would the East stand, and extended back over the road which would still have been hugely inefficient. And in doing all that and extending the Park Lane and Paxton Rd stands you would have ended up with a different ground anyway, probably as expensive as the real new one, smaller capacity, less attractive or efficient, less revenue-generative and who knows what the atmosphere would have been like anyway, even if it had all been possible.

And it wouldn't have been possible because the space needed for the appropriate facilities to accompany a modern 50,000 stadium just wasn't there on the existing footprint.

The new stadium looks like an amazingly good solution to a difficult problem, the best we could have hoped for.

plus the club has actually taken steps to ensure (or try and ensure) that there is a good atmosphere. especially if we compare the plans to Wembley, the Emirates, and the Olympic Stadium for example.

By the time Levy was settling into his new role of chairman it was obvious that the plans that Sugar had laid out to make WHL 55,000 were in the dinosaur age.

It was your typical 1990s build, both the West and East Stands would be a three tier version of what Leeds have as their main stand with the first and second tiers flowing continuously around the ground with a tier of executive boxes in between each tier.

By the time planning permission was given for the East Stand (44,000) in late 2001 Croke Park's four tiered revolution was in full swing with Arsenal, Chelsea (West Stand) and Benfica following suit. The reality was a new era in stadia was on its way after many had taken note of what was happening in the States hiring American architects such as Populous (HK Sports at the time), our plans at the time were simply obsolete.

Fair play to Levy, he knew just how important an investment this would be and took his time with it, never rushing it and ignoring fans, and before this decade, shareholders impatience at the lack of movement on capacity increase. Whilst our new stadium will keep up with the times by having the usual 'Super Suites' and 'Club Level' seating, it's Sky Lounge and Tunnel Bar will usher in a new era for British and, potentially, European stadia.

Well said. The design of both the West and East Stands are absolutely awful. At least on the Paxton & Park Lane we have over hanging tiers. The West Stand design is an absolutely God awful waste of space. Considering it's the length of the pitch and holds just 6,890 people...

If the West Stand had the same capacity of the East Stand WHL would have been over 40K for much of the last 20 ish years. If it was an even larger stand on each side like the East Stand at Elland Rd we would've been up to around 49,000. I did see a mock up of the footprint of that stand on the West and East side of WHL and it would've fitted, albeit over Worcester Avenue!

NB just noticed that stand breakdown totals 36,300. Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia ;)

I quite like the west stand. Has alot of character and is a good example of its day. It was built in the 80's. I cant think of anything from the 80s (stadia wise) that looks as good.

For info:
Nottingham Forest's 'Executive' stand and the 'Molyneux Street' stand at Wolverhampton Wanderers are almost identical to our 'West Stand'. The one at Wolves was the forerunner, swiftly copied and improved by the other two.

Sugar may have calculated back then that within the next 20 years every game from all the leagues would be live on the TV, so who exactly would be coming to a 50k+ stadium even if they built it.
In practice, increased coverage has increased the demand for tickets - who would have thunk it?

I knew that about Forest's stand but had no idea about that stand at Molineux'! The exterior glazing of the stand is identical to the exterior of the West Stand. Had absolutely no idea.
