Looks like another couple of weeks of piling before that can happen.I guess with the North stand out of the way they will be able to really crack on with the new East and West stands, before the new South stand goes in, and then the roof starts in Jan/Feb 18 if I remember rightly from the schedule.
Exciting times
They definitely look ahead of schedule at the moment though. The talk was the start of the new season before demolition would have been completed.
I dunno what penalty clauses Daniel put in the contract but Mace are really kicking ass.
This is the man who managed to get Boro to pay £7m for a 18 stone Mido so anything's possible....Might be more incentive bonuses to finish early. IIRC David Matzdorf and others on here were saying quite a while ago now, that the the penalty clauses weren't that effective and usually were negotiated away after lengthy discussions (paraphrasing). Bonuses were likely to be more effective.
Of course it does depend on whatever Dear Leader has managed to get the companies to sign!
They aren't "penalty clauses". Penalties are illegal in building contracts. They're damages for late completion, related to the extra costs incurred by the Employer as a result of the Contractor completing the project late.
And as @Roynie says, I did write, more than once, that they are ineffective. When you can actually enforce them, as opposed to the usual end-result of reaching a commercial settlement (compromise) with the contractor, you get some money back, perhaps 2 years later, but the threat of damages doesn't get the building finished any sooner.
In a construction-management contractor such as this one, I would not be surprised to to see financial incentives for early completion, as well as damages for late completion.
I wouldn't draw any conclusions about work being ahead of schedule. They're obviously beavering away vigorously on site, but it's likely that some areas/aspects of the job are ahead of the programme, whereas others are behind the programme. It's not possible to judge progress on a contract of this size by looking at how busy the site it, or how much built structure has appeared. You'd have to sit down with the detailed, week-by-week programme and work it out. It would take hours and there are people being paid to do just that.
Compression ring? Can you please explain to this dumb schmuck!Compression ring going up on the North Stand.
