He's prepared to stay and fight for a place despite what Poch did to him, respect to him for doing that.

Bit dramatic?
Not to me, I thought it was terrible what he did, dropping Wimmer when he was doing so well and allowing Verts to just stroll back into the team like that.He can't keep doing that otherwise we're going to have a demoralised squad.

Fantastic. I was worried other teams would come after him after the way he performed in Vertonghen's absence.

Pleased for him. I feel he proved he was more than capable of filling in for Vertonghen and was unlucky to lose his place in the team.

He knows he's gonna get chances. But for me, even after the Euros, where Wimmer was not a starter for Austria, it is Toby and Jan when both are fit. They were outstanding for Belgium.

They are a very good pairing but we lost something defensively when Wimmer got dropped.

In a nutshell - I think we were better at set pieces and stronger defensively with KW in the team - But JV is more MoPo's style (playing from the back). Horses for courses?
Great news he's signed up though. I like that a lot. With JV out with injury as the season begins - maybe this time KW stakes his claim and keeps it?

Think he can be our best CB (in time). Needs to stay and wait his turn and continue to improve.

Great news, after the way he played last year he deserves a pay rise. Hopefully he will get plenty of game time this year through rotation.

Well whatever Poch did to him worked as he clearly wants more;)
You don't know if what Poch did there worked. It might have been that the fact that we are in the CL that prompted him to sign or it could be that Poch had a chat with him and reassured him that he has a future, it could be both those things and more.

Well we got into CL because of Poch.....It's Poch's job to man manage the players so reassuring players is his job......
The way I see it, either way it's down to Poch

My original quote to your post was light hearted though

Great news...

Thought he was great when he came in for verts. ....He was untested in the PL and alot of pressure was on....but he showed his class!!!!
Was also unlucky to be replaced by verts but could see poch's thinking as verts and Toby were solid and the best CB pairing in the PL...but was always going to take verts time to get back up to speed.

He's third choice but pushing Jan all the way. He doesn't have the experience yet and that's why Poch dropped him so quickly, not the case that Wimmer put a foot wrong because he didn't. Really good news that he's signed.

He's gone some way in dispelling the 'untested in the EPL' myth. He came in when we were under a fair bit of pressure to keep things going and really hit the ground running. It can be done and Wimmer is the proof. IMO he should have kept his place and I said so at the time. He's also very good on the ball - not far behind Vertonghen and more robust defensively.
