I've never liked that ref, he's a bit of a Mike Dean centre of attention kind of ref. And today he didn't have a good game.

Either way, that was a proper World Cup game, loads of drama and excitement with a bit of needle and aggro thrown in.

I don't mind refs that try and exert some authority but there are ways to do it without just winding people up like this twat (and as said above Mike Dean)
Much prefer an approachable ref that engages players and can hear a players view without reacting like the players have taken a shit on his elderly tortoise.

The cojonas on the Dutch to play the free kick the way they did last minute of the game was brilliant but they were pretty boring generally and rather Argentina went through

Deliberately handling the ball is a foul not a yellow. I get why people feel it to Yellow but in the laws of the game it's not.
It depends on the circumstances. If a deliberate handball prevents goal, it's a straight red. If it prevents an attack, it's usually a yellow. A lot is down to the ref, as always

Harry got a yellow card against Brighton (I believe it was) when trying to control the ball in the offensive penalty area.

Not sure of the language of the rule but surely refs can give yellow cards for situation where they deem it deliberate?

Could be argued he stopped an attack. But anyway, Messi could've put the ball under his arm, run the length of the pitch and thrown it into the net and that ref wouldn't have booked him.

uhmmm, didn't Messi got a booking during the OTs?

This fawning over Messi is getting ridiculous

I heard a commentator say" Molina should share his moment of glory with Messi" after he scored

Or " can anyone in the world play that pass,I dont think so"

C'mon it wasn't that amazing a pass...Harry Kane De Bruyne & many others can do it too,no problem

Ha, yes, I’d forgotten about that. Should’ve been a red then, right?

Who knows. If Messi had gotten a yellow for the handball, then now we would be living in a different reality, and in that alternate reality Netherlands probably doesn't even get to score that equalizer in the first place. But you would have a point if the handball had ocurred after Messi was already booked.

Lol. it was amazing. He never even watched his man and still had the perfect angle and weight. and then you use two of the best passers in the world to compare him to. Modric could make that pass and HK and KdB on a good day. Not too many others though

Best team won and fair play to Van Gaal, not many superstars in that Dutch team.
And there's that what I prefer a team winning than a team always about a Messi or a Ronaldo. At least Portugal has other more humble stars and they dare to bench Ronaldo. Never got to stop hearing Messi and Messi and only Messi in the Argentina team with many in there playing so arrogantly as well.

This is quite funny, yet Martinez has just won a quarter final and he’s taking shots at the referee (for the wrong reason) and Van Gaal (for being supportive of his team).

Whatever happened to being happy you won rather than needless schadenfreude?

Romero literally did the same thing and got booked before that though. It's the lack of consistency.
