Down with Autocratic Dictatorships?Yeah that was the reason I can remember hearing at the time I believe. I want to say it was something to do with Palestine and Israel and it nearly causing a riot but I'm not 100% on that. There were other rumours that it was also to do with players displaying sponsorships that didn't fit the Fifa brand as well.
There are numbers on shorts though aren't there?I suppose there is another minor point. Shirts help to identify players. If one takes his shirt off there is really no issue. If two or three did it and then there was a mass brawl it might be difficult to identify beyond doubt who threw a punch, for example, when two players look alike. Even perhaps with VAR. It's far easier if you get a glimpse of a number
It's a heat of the moment thing. And it's the same with rash challenges and all that. Here we are, expecting players to execute common sense judgement in a split second and get it right every time. It’s amazing to me that the compulsion to take their shirts off to celebrate is so strong it can’t be resisted, even when the resulting card could lead to a suspension later in the season.
Do they rip their shirts off when celebrating other moments like finding something you were planning to buy has been yellow stickered at Tesco, or squeezing out a particularly fine turd?
Footballers are an odd breed…

Sometimes you just have to cut some slack.
I’m not really criticising them, and I get they lose control in the moment. Fair enough. It's a heat of the moment thing. And it's the same with rash challenges and all that. Here we are, expecting players to execute common sense judgement in a split second and get it right every time.

They manage to resist whacking off their shorts and running around in their pants. So they are not that odd. It’s amazing to me that the compulsion to take their shirts off to celebrate is so strong it can’t be resisted, even when the resulting card could lead to a suspension later in the season.

I agree Bents card was unnecessary and I couldn't work about why he booted it away like that? But it was towards the end, not in the first half.Recently we've picked up some really needless bookings. Bissouma at West Ham - stupid booking for petulance early on meant he was on a tightrope the rest of the game. Similar for Bentancur against Fulham - booked for kicking the ball away in the first half. And lastly Richarlison - I will never understand why a player takes his shirt off after scoring. Automatic yellow card, and even more foolish in the VAR era as you never know if the goal will stand. People will defend him and talk to the explosive passion of scoring a goal, but it is stupid. Conte says players need 'hot hearts and cool brains' and he is right. Our new players need to learn.
He booted the ball away as he had executed a really good slide tackle and cleanly won the ball and yet had a foul given against him.I agree Bents card was unnecessary and I couldn't work about why he booted it away like that? But it was towards the end, not in the first half.

So with this rationale if for example Richarlison scores against Everton. I am fairly sure he would show restraint as many more have done in the past. It is possible not to take your shirt off celebrating, I don’t think it’s comparable to making a rash challenge. It's a heat of the moment thing. And it's the same with rash challenges and all that. You can be sure of nothing. Because, It's a heat of the moment thing or, if you like, passion, it's all tied together. The shirt off thing dosn't happen often but it does happen. Players sometimes get carried away. Challenges and shirts off are two different things but in the heat of the moment, people sometimes do these things, make rash challenges etc etc. Intensity and Passion can do that now and again. So with this rationale if for example Richarlison scores against Everton. It's one of those lead a horse to water thingsnot understanding this I find strange
Needless booking. So if he’s already on a yellow card and he scores, you want him to show emotion and desire and to run around like a loony waving his shirt in the air, and getting himself a second yellow. Not understanding this I find strange.I’m glad he took his shirt off and ran around like a loony
Shows he was desperate for a goal
Shows emotion
Shows desire
that’s what I want from our players
not understanding this I find strange
