So its got be Pav & Defoe up front, with Modric behind them two, Palacios & Zokora in the middle, Lennon & Bentley on the wings with 3 of the best at the back ?? Its gonna be a formation 3-4-1-2

He did what the Stoke players did, hounded, harrassed, forced errors and mopped up lose balls. he made many interceptions and gave it simple to feet. Modric made a lot of tackles, true, but he spent most of the game in the other team's half, when Stoke got the ball Zokora covered the whole midfield.

You need to put your anti-Zokora bias aside for a a couple of games to see it. He's not an all singing all dancing midfielder, but he does his job very well. You think he'd be in the team every week if he didn't? Jenas and Huddlestone have lost their places recently (I know JJ's was largely down to a toe injury) neither of them will replace Zokora and it looks like Palacios won't either.

The Blanchflower quote is spot on

So at a time where we're struggling to score goals you want us to drop our best and most creative midfielder? This debate about Modric is tiring. Yes, we need battlers, but we also need players who can actually play good football. Its about balance not building a team of boxers.

and that is why

If I can play in the Bosnian League I can play anywhere. He gets stuck in it is just his back tracking for me but he will learn and plaus we are defo not in a relegtion scrap. Under Redknapp we would be 7th or something in points. We will be fine and the sooner we realise our potential the sooner we will have a close knit team that grinds out results like Villa.

Modric is/has been a huge disappointment.

If you can't score, create. If you can't create, tackle. If you can't tackle break up play.

If you can't do one of the above for 16 million. Jog on son.

gotta love gibbs, whenever he says something, he gets proved completely wrong.

I said he was a good player all along. Just not what we needed. I said that the day he signed. Since then there has been 100's of posts questioning if he was right for us with all the chopping and changing we have done to accomidate him.

We won a game against a team who hasn't beaten anyone away from home.

He played well. Didn't score, got his THIRD bone fide assist in the Prem. (the rest have been balls bouncing off the post and tapped in. One of his goals was laying on the floor and the ball bounced off his head and in)

Remember kiddies, he has been given the key to the city. If you put Tarabatt in the same position for as many many MANY hours in a KEY position you would probably have MORE assists and MORE goals.

Players have been told to play EVERYTHING through him. It is almost impossible to fail given the freedom he has. But he has. One game against an awful side at home does not make him stellar when he is given his role...

Did you see him at the end of the game? He was weak as a kitten and had been edged off the ball about 20 times due to his size.

Malbranque has 9 assists this season. We were done up like a kipper. And that is while Malbs has been RESTED and had bans.

Modric CHOKES in front of goal. Some of his shots are laughable.

Please tell me your joking? Please?

At the top you say he is a good player and then proceed to give examples of how he is not a good player? If you think he is shit, just say so! Don't worry about being unpopular!

Anyhow, Modric is a quality footballer playing in a new, physical and fast league in a team that has been in crisis for almost a year. You say that his performance against stoke was because of the opposition? Well, he did things in that game that only berbs, and occasionally Keane have done in a spurs shirt in a very long time.

I do agree that at times he is not what we need, but you could say that of somebody like Scholes who has been among the best midfielders in the world for 12 years. He isn't quick, can't tackle, can't head, what does he offer? Exquisite passing, vision and creativity is the answer.

We are spurs and if we can't make room for the only truly quality mid on our books, then there is something very, very wrong!

Besides all of that, I think I will take the opinions of Wenger, Redknapp and many other top managers in europe before I listen to yours.

The lad is pure class, get over it!

I do see the reasoning in Gibbsy's posts. He is over-aggressive on Modric because he's trying to justify his opinion that he's no real improvement on Malbranque (much like when Stoof says Taarabt is absolute shit), which, unfortunately, the stats back him up on.

He is improving, but I don't think we should all be sucking eachother's dicks over his performances just yet, he's terribly inconsistent and hasn't really changed games for us yet, not on a consistent basis anyway.

so, we ended up loving Mouse ? i hope every mouse like him, so i would sign all of them for us loool

if we signed wingers/second strikes like top sides, we can finaly use 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 like top sides with him one of the three Middle players, because he is top playmaker, he isn't EPL proven yet but his petential not less than Gerrard.

4-2-3-1
Pavlyuchenko
Arshavin Modric Lennon
Palacios - Zokora

4-4-1-1/4-4-2
Arshavin - Pavlyuchenko
Modric - Palacios - Jenas - Lennon

4-3-3
Pavlyuchenko
Arshavin .................... Lennon
Modric - Jenas
Palacios

We just need Arshavin/top class second striker Now !

Wenger (famously) said he is too small for the Prem.

As for Scholes, to have a player like him in the team, he had ROY KEANE next to him giving him artistic license. And now he has Carrick next to him.

I actually was wrong. I said way back when that he was a good player but only as good as Malbs who he replaced. BTW I predicted that Malbs would leave because of Modric and he did. So far he has not been as good as Malbs, who played the pants of Modric when they beat us at home and he got the Sunderland fans MOTM award.

Basically, with us being BOTTOM of the table at periods while our defense has actually improved points to my suggestions that he is not quite the creative genius that everyone thought.

If we had signed Barry and NOT Modric then maybe Bentley would not have been asked to do donkey work and actually get us some assist from the midfied.

Obviously for 16 million, he has been a dissapointment. And one decent game against the leagues whipping boys at home is at least a start.

What annoys me is a person's inability to be objective or to see past the end of their nose. Stoof would say that Taraabt was shit if he scored 37 goals in 1 game and single-handedly won us the league, that is just pure bias. Stoof has a point, but if he were prepared to admit when the lad does well he might be taken more seriously.

gibbs has a point as well, Modric hasn't set the world alight, but there are numerous factors that must be considered. We have been in turmoil and generally playing shit, he is in a new league, he is playing central midfield often against an extra man and against very physical teams. Yet he has still managed to show enough to suggest that he is a very good player. Is that not enough to give him a break?

gibbs has been determined since we bought Modric, since before he had played a game for us, that he is the wrong player, that is why he says he is poor. Not because he is or isn't.

My personal feeling is that these people lack an understanding of football. I could be wrong, but that is the impression that I get:shrug:

What is even worse is that they want a player dropped for a vastly inferior player like Jenas or Bent or Huddelstone. With the exception of Bent, who at the very least scores goals, the other two offer next to nothing to the team with any regularity!

It is a game of opinions, even absurd ones I guess!

You do know that JJ almost got us CL football twice right? JJ is being forced to work as a DM next to Modric. Because Modrics has thrown our shape into chaos putting him in there.

Jenas is in the worst form of his Spurs career and HIS GOAL/ASSIST STATS ARE STILL BETTER THAN MODRICS.

So JJ almost got us cl football twice? Just JJ? Do you support another team in your spare time because I can only remember us challenging for the cl once and I do believe that jj was not only playing on the right quite often in that season but he was also playing with 10 other players?

JJ is not a bad player at all, there were worse players than him in that team and in the current one, but a good team is not about how good players are in relative terms but how good they are together. Unfortunately, because JJ doesn't fulfill a specific role it is difficult to find a partner for him. He is not creative, he is not a true goal scorer, he is not a tackler or a defensive minded player, where do you play him and what kind of partner should he have?

This is the reason that Zokora will still be a spurs player next season and jj probably won't and also the reason why Modric will!

Sometimes I wish Modric would leave for Inter/Juve (why do they like Modric if he is so shit?) and set the world alight, particularly in Italy where the game is probably just as physical as in England. Then to watch half these same prats saying how bad he is to come here and moan about Levy letting him go.

Gibbs just likes Malbranque and hates that Modric was bought in as a replacement of sorts, so will rant at Modric even if Modric averaged an assist and goal a game for the rest of the season, with his usual high percentage pass completion rate, he would still find some way of making Malbranque sound better.

Teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan all still watch Modric play, and if we put him up for sale one of them would snap him up eagerly, but all those teams with their great scouting networks must be wrong, and blind for not seeing that Malbranque is the player they all need, that Modric is just second best to the great Steed.

Right?

If Modric could, hwe would come eright here onto SC and perpindicularly bisect all of our quantium chloride reserve tanks and we would all stop saying bad things about A his hairdo and B his playing style which by the way is marvelous. I shook his hand the othr day and it was just the right amount of firm while still being soft and friendly. im sorry if it makes no sense its my birthday n i just got home im drunk love you all
