The reason why he wants to leave ManC is that he wants to play regular 1st team footy. There's no way he'll join Spurs to be a back up player.

Well he won't be taking Walkers place no chance.

He is not good enough to be one of our number 1 CB's.

Therefore he is not a first team player.

Man City is such a weird club for english players. Remember that kid from everton what was his name again? Oh yeah Jack Rodwell, the future of england's central mid field.

I can't even remember the last time I saw him play, I bet most people forgot he existed.

Mr P, I disagree :(. Don't get me wrong, I like Naughton and, personally, prefer him at RB rather than Walker. However, in my opinion, Richards is a league above Naughton in every sense, especially the last part of your post that I highlighted. He's a beast of a player, strong on the ball, strong in the air, very strong in the tackle, makes good use of the ball when he has it and, as I already intimated, is very good going forward.

It's also easy to forget that he's still only 25 years of age, 5 months YOUNGER than Naughton . Seriously, look at who has achieved the most out of them. There's a reason for that!! I look at this video of him doing what he does, and I instantly think, "we have NOBODY who can play like this". Kaboul 4 years ago, yeah, but not any more.

Anyway, I guess you'll disagree, but here's the video anyway (y)

Agree, dont forget that Bale said Richards was the hardest right back in the league to get past.

His versitality would get him plenty of game time.

Still, unless a club offers him silly money, he does not want to be a back up. His versatility may help him to more games yet but he wants to be a first teamer and not sit and wait for someone to get injured so he can be used due to his versatility.

Wait for someone to get injured ? It's not like we got any injuries recently.

No seriously, with a little ambition he can challenge for a starting role. It's not like Walker is the best RB in the world. Kaboul is injury prone and was really bad last year, and Chiriches had his ups and downs.

The guy has been injured for years with a dodgy hamstring. In fact his last season at Everton he only played 15 or so games because his hamstring. Which made it even weirder why city bought him and not surprised Moyes let him go.

Not sure he's built for professional football. Bit like that other City youngster who got fat and retired.

Would love this signing! Reasonable price and a good 2 contracts left in him. A bit of focused coaching to get him up to scratch and we would have a player pushing for a 1st Eleven place. I think people have played down this guys talent when on form - he'd definitely have Walker looking over his shoulder! Hopefully we can find him a place a CB though - again a bit of coaching (Ledley do your magic) and he could be great! I'd be very excited with a back four of Walker, Vertonghen, Richards, New LB if Poch got them all playing to the best of their ability!

Naughton to leave to make space for him and a few more upgrades around the squad and I'll be very happy!

Does show us that there is a lot of talent out there who could improve us without having to break the bank!

Yes, I agree that if he stays injury free he could well be a starter, either as RB or CB (where there is more of a pressing need for reinforcements).

I think he would be a decent cb, especially will Kabouls injury frequency but would he really want to join as a cb?

And if he wasn't to join as a cb surely he would be unnecessary with walker in the squad and unhappy with joining without first team football?

IMO a deal for Richards would make a lot of sense.
If we were to ship out the likes of Dawson, Siggurdson, Lennon, Naughton, Rose etc our home grown quota has taken a big hit. Replacing with top players would cost a massive amount (Shaw cost more than Sanchez FFS), but Richards is out of contract I believe. OK, so he couldn't get in the City line up, but it would take one hell of a player to push Zabaleta down the order. He's able to cover a couple of positions where we are under strength, and he's still only 26. To me it's a no brainer

I agree that Richards would be a decent signing but you mention Kaboul's injury frequency but Richards's isn't much better!
