Mexican Keeper Memo Ochoa had a blinder keeping the Brazilians out in yesterday's WC game. Heard he will be out of contract in 13 days and will be a free agent? Wonder will Spurs sit up and take notice? He could be another Gomes, a superb shotstopper, but much lacking in others. But if comes to Spurs, he will be 1. On much lower wage compared to Gomes. 2. He will be backed up to Lloris.Spurs, with its history of going for bargains, do you think Guillermo Ochoa will be a viable option to back Lloris? What do you guys think? Of coz, need to see/weigh his performance further, as long as he plays for Mexico in the current WC.

I have liked him before and was shocked to learn he just got released after a shocking season but I would prefer to go english for our second keeper

He'd be a great no. 2, not that I think he'd accept a no. 2 spot. I'm reasonably sure we were linked with him about 3 or 4 years ago.

Anyway, I think an English back up is the way to go..... as well as crossing fingers Lloris doesn't get injured

Yeah, We're talking about a guy who reportedly told the former Mexican international coach that he didn't even want to be on the national team unless he was the starting GK!

Like I said in the match thread, on his day Memo Ochoa is world class. Other times, he seems a nightmare waiting to happen. He reminds me too much of Gomes for my liking. Surprisingly he wasn't even expected to be starting at this world cup, as Herrera preferred Corona before his injury. I can't see him agreeing to be a backup anywhere, as he's refused call ups recently when he didn't expect to start. I'm sure he'll have plenty of offers for the starting roles, especially after today. And here's an unrelated fun fact I learned today, he has six fingers on one of his hands.

His team, Ajaccio, was relegated last season. Not a good team and a strange one for someone like him, who is clearly a decent keeper, to stay with for 3yrs. He did very well the year before, and probably kept Ajaccio in more games than the rest of their team deserved last season.

As some others have said I would prefer an English or home-grown keeper, we have two foreign on our books as it is

I thought the rule on this site was to start a player thread ONLY if the player is linked and do it in the Transfer Rumour Forum? Otherwise, just discuss him in general football.

Way too many of these 'not relevant in the slightest' threads being put in Spurs Chat lately.

Please check the rules. Contrary to popular opinion, there is nothing in them that says you have to lose all sense of reality when joining SC.

Think he may well have run his contract down in time for the World Cup...

That's not true, it was a fake. (the 6 fingers)

He was at Ajaccio because they were the only team that still wanted him after he was tested positive for Clenbuterol in 2011 (he was acquitted later and blamed a contamination of meat like Contador)

And he said he wants to stay in France. It'll probably be Marseille.
