I took what Trix said as 2 to 3 more on top of Hart and Hoyjbjerg which considering its a pandemic and we have no money would be very good if we can get 4 solid signings and 5 would be excellent.

If we sign:
Hart
PEH
RB
ST

what gaps exactly are there? Not many left really I’d say and Ndombele issue aside no glaring major issues at all, that would leave us with a squad something like:

Lloris
Hart
Gazza

RB
Fernandes
Tanganga

Dier
Toby
Sanchez
Tanganga or new CB

Davies
Cirkin * mabye back-up LB slight weakness but Tanganga can also cover this

PEH
Sissoko

winks
Ndombele

Lucas
Berweign

Dele
Lo celso
Lamela

Son
Sessengon + mabye JClarke but he’s likely to be l

Kane
ST

Id say that would be one hell of a nicely balanced squad capeable of Competing on all fronts.
There’s been hints and ITK that we’d like 2 RBs to come in so I’m assuming that would be the other possible purchase.

The last Doherty we had at the club was the 'Ginger Pele', now, according to youtube, I look forward to welcoming the 'Irish Cafu'.

I couldnt care less if he is 28 yrs old the real question is does he improve our RB position? I really like Aurier and think whilst he has silly moments he didnt do too badly.
I highly doubt Mourinho sees replacing Aurier as such a high priority as SC does. However, we do need another recognised RB in the squad, so may as well take the opportunity to upgrade rather than simply buying an inferior back-up. Then we can sell Aurier if a lucrative offer comes in, but keep him as a decent squad player if not.

Mike McGrath been pretty good for Spurs news lately as well, no?
I mentioned before but incase you missed it, I went to school with him, he's a spurs fan.

Putting two and two together maybe he's made it his business to be more informed on spurs news?

If we sign Doherty, I am certain Aurier is off, particularly with the ITK suggesting such. We aren't ending the transfer window with a 27 and 18 year old fullback. That would scream of short termism.

I wouldn't mind keeping Aurier, but when the coach is known to be 'scared of him' in our own box, and rumours suggesting he isn't too bothered about staying, I suspect if he stays it wouldn't be out of any lack of trying.

Only potential spanner is as JPB said in his article it appears AC Milan have ended their interest in Aurier. Would we sanction the Doherty deal if Aurier is not at least halfway out the door?

The other spanner being that the Athletic are usually terrible for transfer news. Let’s hope this is different.

Given the number of games we will play id keep Aurier too for this season even if we take a slight hit at the end of the season. This season will be like no other and the games are so condensed and with Europa League where we start so early, i just think it makes sense. Unless Gedson or Foyth can step up

Not much on Youtube for Doherty but he looks ok - then again Robertson didnt look amazing but turned into a great player now

As far as I'm aware Wolves don't pay huge in wages (could be wrong though). It's one of the advantages they have in their team up with Mendes where they sign his clients and pay some higher-ish transfer prices but they save on the wages.

It's one of the reasons why I think Doherty would be interested in the move. That said I have no idea what Serge is currently on, so unsure if there will be much in terms of comparative savings. I imagine if Levy is trying to be very cautious with the books (as Trix has alluded to) then I imagine that will likely come from getting Ndombele's wage off the books.

Im sure I read the other day that he’s on £10k a week. That can’t be right though surely?

If we sign Doherty and start Aurier we’re basically upgrading our position without really spending any money, similar to Hojbjerg coming in and selling KWP for about a £3m difference.

Based on that I’d imagine we still have money for a striker to come in.

Honest question: I can’t believe it’s 32 pages and I haven’t really seen this mentioned anywhere, but how is his crossing actually? It’s weird, whenever I watch videos there’s an obvious high level attacking intelligence and he can ghost behind defenders, but I don’t think I’ve seen a single assist of him pinging one in from the byline or delivering an early cross. If you look at all his goal contributions (posted here) I think only one comes with a proper cross - the rest are short passes.

Good. Cutbacks from the wide areas are far more reliable in terms of creating chances than early/floated crosses

Nice that we got Jose's first choice midfield target in Hojbjerg and now his supposed first choice right back in Doherty. If we get his preferred striker any additional business on top will be a bonus imo
It’s because Jose was smart enough to have realistic first choice targets.

Sure but I’m talking about when he receives the ball in a 30 yards and in wide position, what is he going to do with the ball? Seen a few Wolves fans on twitter say his crossing is poor, and that does concern me honestly. Kane was crying out for some good first time crosses this season.

tbf Wolves are not exactly known for their aerial prowess.

Doherty is a major part of a team which really are not that far off from our level. He is dynamic going forwards and while not great defensively he is a much more stable presence than Aurier.

He is a very good signing, and is a top top player, much more complete and finished article than any other fullback we have been linked with. Like I've said, I'm very happy if we manage to tie this up.

Chris Hughton, Stephen Carr, Joe Kinnear and Jimmy Holmes - all Irish, all full backs - clocked up over 1,000 games for Spurs between them.

If he signs, Matt Doherty will be following in a fine tradition. Let's hope he does them proud.
