The vice president of French club Nancy has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur target Massadio Haïdara has caught the attention of five English clubs. Le10 have reported that Jacques Rousselot had been speaking to French radio station RMC when he stated that the player is keen on a move to England and that a move is likely in this month’s transfer window.
Rousselot has said that the club needs to move on five players this month (he either likes the number five or is plucking this from thin air) with Haidara among those possibilities. He is one of Nancy’s prized assets and has the highest market value so the club will be hopeful that they can find a buyer. It has been revealed that that 'five' English sides have been in talks with the French club and that a deal can be finalised soon. Rousselot said that the player has had two years in France now but is keen to find a new challenge with England as his preferred destination.
"The player with the highest market value is Massadio Haïdara. It’s been two years that he has played in Ligue 1. He really likes the English market. Today we are in contact with five English clubs at the first part of the negotiations. We think it should be finalised soon".
The Daily Mail had reported in November that Tottenham Hotspur were tracking the 19 year old defender. He currently has 18 months left on his contract with Nancy and only arrived at the club in 2010 so it is unlikely that the Premier League side will get him on the cheap. A figure of £6.5m has been reported as the figure that will get the French under 21 international.
Despite the interest from Tottenham Hotspur the Ligue 1 side had stated in December that they hadn’t received a concrete offer. Sky Sports had said that Nancy’s sporting director Eric Martin was aware of the interest from the North London club but as yet a formal bid hadn’t come in. Martin stated that he could only go off what the press were saying and that for the time being Haidara was still a Nancy player.
It now looks likely that the player will move on in the next three weeks but all that remains to be seen is whether Tottenham Hotspur have been one of the clubs in talks with Nancy. In our opinion Nancy's president Jacques Rousselot is trying to exaggerate interest in order to get the highest fee possible and it's only Tottenham who have been repeatedly linked with the player.

According to his Wiki Page:

On 10 January 2011, he signed his first professional contract after agreeing to a three-year deal with Nancy. On 22 of January 2013, Haïdara signed a 5 year contract with Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee.
