Central Coast Mariners have issued an apology after one of their players attended end-of-season celebrations dressed as Adolf Hitler and another blacked up in imitation of the actor Morgan Freeman.
Andre Gumprecht, from the former East Germany, was condemned by Australian Jewish groups for appearing at the event in a Nazi-style uniform and wearing a Hitler moustache on Monday.
Former Rangers and Cardiff defender Tony Vidmar, whose nickname is God, is understood to have dressed as Freeman in his role as God in the 2003 film Bruce Almighty and was pictured with a blackened face and whitened hair.
The private event came a day after Central Coast lost the A-league grand final 1-0 to Newcastle Jets in Sydney.
"On behalf of the players, if any groups were offended by their dress yesterday, the club and the players apologise and reiterate that no such offence was intended," Mariners chief executive Lyall Gorman said.
"We've taken it up privately with the players. We've re-enforced our points of view, strongly.
"My understanding is that the FFA will seek a report from us and we will provide that."

Sounds like a hell of a party...

How are you supposed to go to a fancy dress party as a black character without 'blackening' your face? And, whether you like it or not Hitler is a part of history. Total pish.

The Hitler thing was unnecessary, however, the guy who blackened his face shouldn't have caused so much bother, it's not a problem IMO, he didn't blacken his face, hold a banana and go as an "elephant washer" he went as a film character which was based on his nickname.
