I would presume that the coaching staff and fellow players feel that scarlett isnt too far off being ready. He is in and around the first team for a reason and the europa conference is probs gonna be his playground this year. So im guessing son and kane will be alternating as subs for those games as insurance.

We will never know if we dont blood the lad.
Markanday was in the squad on Thursday. On the bench I think. So must be well thought of.

Agreed..... subs bench including markanday and one of son and kane..... if its going well son/kane arent gonna appear, markanday will... i dont see where another striker fits in without stunting the kids progression.

Just thought it interesting that Scarlett played in the Under23 game and Markanday was on the bench for conference league. Maybe just rotating to give them first team experience.

Scarlett was on the bench as well though, he’s been included in every squad this season I think.

I'd prefer Lewandowski / Haaland / Lukaku / Benzema as back-up...so Sonny can keep scoring from LW while they do decent job of picking up Kane's share. ;)

In all seriousness though, our problem with Son playing as a no.9 isn't that he doesn't score enough from that position, but that the guy filling in at LW will score less than Son would at LW and less than Kane would at no.9, so there are less goals in the team overall when Kane (or Son) is injured.

We're always going to be better with two world-class attacking players (Kane & Son) than only one, but no "adequate" replacement will be content as back-up to them (only clubs that pay silly wages to squad players and/or almost guarantee trophies can pull that off).
For me, that means signing a prolific RW would be the most effective way of mitigating injuries to our two top goalscorers (which we did last summer, but Bale barely played!).
I really rate Moura and think he gives good balance to the team, as he's better than Son out of possession. However, Moura + Bergwijn (when Son is injured / playing no.9) isn't a LW/RW combo that offers many goals. I think Gil is going to be more of a creator than a scorer, so he's unlikely to be the solution either. Even a 2016-17 Dele (if he could return to that scoring form) isn't going to contribute many goals without a "proper" big no.9 to make runs off, so even being optimistic I don't think the solution is within our existing squad.
If only Levy wasn't too stingy to sign Messi / Ronaldo as cover for Son or one of the CFs above as cover for Kane. F****** ENIC not backing the manager. :ROFLMAO:

Yes in the ideal world we would all like some of your back ups, here's hoping Paratici can find us some gems. I think Gil will chip in with a few goals as well as providing. When you look at three successful recent teams , Man City PL winners, Chelsea CL winners & Italy Euros did any of them play with a proper big no. 9 in the Kane mould , I don't think so.

One thing about Paratici is it a good thing or bad thing that he is right behind Nuno in the touchline seats , wonder how Nuno feels about it , it certainly shows involvent think previous DOFs or whatever his title is always sat in directors box.

I read somewhere that Paratici and Hitchen are currently in a bubble with the first team (players + coaching staff), as they wouldn't otherwise be able to interact face-to-face with Nuno or any of the players. Once COVID bubbles are gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sitting slightly further from the dugout.

Don't know about that , I believe it was also mentioned at Wolves that he and Hitchen were right in behind the subs etc. Since there is so much contact between players during a game of different teams up and down the country don't know if bubbles are effective.
Remember this story from Wembley days , Poch wanted Levy to be similar but doubt that would ever happen maybe Paratici is following that pattern just get in everyones faces. Mauricio Pochettino says Juventus dark arts a huge lesson for Tottenham | Tottenham Hotspur | The Guardian

2 points from 8 games before H!
2 points from 8 was Ramos, not Jol. I would never dream of suggesting we should have stuck with Ramos.

Under Jol + Arnesen/Comolli we achieved our two best PL finishes to date (5th) and qualified for Europe in consecutive seasons for the first time since the mid-'80s. We would have finished 4th under Jol had our squad not been hit with norovirus for the last game of the season ("lasagne-gate") - which would have matched Harry's best finish with us, despite utilising some of the same players while they were less experienced.

Levy was in negotiations with Ramos, who had won back-to-back UEFA Cups with Sevilla, during the opening two months of the season (and possibly during the summer). It was clear this effected Jol, who's demeanour was off right from day one of the new campaign, so it was no surprise that we underperformed.
Had Levy shown confidence in Jol, instead of actively seeking to replace the manager who had just delivered the club's best results of the PL-era, despite have the youngest playing squad in the league. I highly doubt our form would have been so poor at the start of the 2007-08 season.

Aside from the league cup (which some of our players openly refused to give Ramos any credit for), we underperformed throughout Ramos' reign. Harry inherited a good squad - which had only become so unbalanced during the preceding summer, after Jol had left. Not coincidentally, most of the best-performing players during Harry's time were also at the club during Jol's reign, and 4 or 5 players sold under Ramos were resigned by Harry (off the top of my head: Defoe, Keane, Kaboul, Chimbonda).

The young squad that did so well under Jol should have been expected to improve with experience, so finishing 4th in 2009-10 (compared to 5th in 2005-6 & 2006-7) while retaining the core of the squad should hardly be considered a huge shock.

A young squad brings hope and belief. But, pair that with some bonafide superstars and we will still be competitive while looking to the future. Exciting times, in my opinion.

Transient close contact on the pitch is very different to sitting in a stadium/dugout within 2 metres of the same people for 90 minutes.

Fan-to-fan transmission is a higher risk than play-to-player transmission.

Agreed! As I believe others have noted (couldn't find post I'm thinking of, sorry), it makes sense to go back to competing at the top of the prospect bracket with the likes of Dortmund, Leipzig, Leceister, rather than playing second fiddle to the oligarchs trying to purchase at the top of the established bracket.

Plus, what (at least much of) our squad needs as much as anything if a good kick in the bum. High energy, hungry, and talented youth who will be willing to fight for a spot without sulking will hopefully get the best out of our more established players. Fingers crossed.

Any deals to be done whilst he's out in Barcelona?

Moriba hopefully will happen soon, but it would be great to see us improve our first XI in the next couple of days. Hopefully we have a back up plan for Traore
