It’s taken the whole window to get to a point where they’re even linked away - and Aurier has just publicly reaffirmed his love for Lille’s rivals, so seems unlikely that one will go through.

We’re clearly still bad at moving on deadwood.
ok
Let's hope something happens for him
Getting players out of the club this year was always going to be tough
Time will tell

Or, and hear me out, nobody in Europe has the funds for fees/wages and any club that does these players do not want to move to? It's not always on the selling club. It's on the buyers and the players. Can we stop this "it's all Spurs' fault we can't shift deadwood" nonsense?

There needs to be much more discussion about the club's wage bill.

If Sissoko and Aurier leave in the coming days, the following players and staff will have been removed from the wage bill from last season: Bale, Lamela, Alderweireld, Aurier, Sissoko, Mourinho, Rose, Hart, Vinicius. Thus far, only three players, who based on reports I've seen, are not likely to be on high wages, have been brought in. The net impact on the wage bill, even if you count the salaries of Nuno, Skipp, Sessegnon, as well as Son's extension, seems to be a wage bill reduction of potentially 500K a week and possibly much more depending on how much certain players were actually making. If Ndombele goes as well, that could rise to at least 700K a week, or 35 million pounds shaved off the wage bill at a time when there is far more economic certainty that last year at this time.

The question is, what is Paratici planning to do with this wage bill flexibility? Will he look to make loan moves for high wage players who have fallen out of favor at top clubs? In particular, I'm thinking about Coutinho and Pjanic from Barcelona and Jovic from Real Madrid being candidates for short-term loans to bolster the squad in a one-year push for Champions League football. Alternatively, maybe the club would be willing to offer enormous wages to convince a player with a contract running down to make a move now (like Kessie or possibly even Insigne).

Great post and I agree. We have space for some experienced loans from Barca, juve and all the other clubs who have made some ridiculous signings over the years.

My favourite is still pjanic, hopefully this is a last minute special.

Ive been thinking for a while there must be some opportunity he is thinking about & trying to save up for. The flexibility in the wage bill even with the potential signing of Moriba points to it. Maybe Coutinho or Jovic but also maybe trying for Martinez again. I dont know but I hope he has something up his sleeve because we are falling further behind as it stands with Lukaku, Saul & Kounde to Chelsea, Ronaldo, Sancho & Varane to United, Konate to Liverpool & Grealish to City.

Nice to see you posting!
Something left-field that no-one in the press knows about is going to be great! Here's hoping

Outside of maybe securing a deal or two for the youngsters, I think our business might be done for this window. Sissoko is most likely to leave, and that’s about it. Aurier and Ndombele: we have no interest in them, so will need to be reintegrated into the squad and hopefully will contribute.

This isn’t a nightmare scenario. I think it just means we are likely to be a bit busier in January than in previous seasons. By then, some teams in Europe might be better off financially and as the season gets older, players get injured, needs have to be filled. Likewise, with dudes like Traore refusing to sign a new contract his price will be 50% less next summer. So, we can try again in January and see if Wolves are more open.

My only wish before Sept 1, is if we can potentially get our hands on a more creative midfielder and another attacking player. But, that looks very unlikely now. And I certainly don’t blame Paratici for this. Appears like it has been a strange market. On a positive note, we did move on Toby, Lamela and Foyth. Bought in Gil, Romero and Gollini. Chapter 1 of the rebuild. Maybe January will see us add two more in, and subtract 2 out.

Regardless of players coming and going, Fab’s biggest win so far might be Nuno.

Not sure how you can confidently declare we have no interest in players. Sissoko was on that list yesterday afternoon, now he’s basically a Watford player. Stuff changes fast.

What do you think?
I believe DL would have not accepted lower bids for players and the past backs this up
I'm interested to debate this in a friendly way ?

EDIT: @Sophos151 What do you think?
In the case of Aurier he is in the last year of his contract and has openly said he wants to leave. So as a massively depreciating asset it is clear we'd sell this summer if we could. The last 2 seasons there have been less buying with the worldwide pandemic.

So do I accept us selling Aurier this summer and not before as proof of Levy asking too much? Not at all. A very weak narrative.

Sissoko is 32 now and nowhere near the first team. Again if we can sell I am sure we will. I don't accept this as proof of Levy asking too much.

If the only difference in us selling players is Levy then why have we still not sold the other deadwood? The answer is the Levy asking for too much money is simply a lazy narrative.

Very true. But it’s not like we have folks lining up around the block. And I am personally not worried. If something changes at the last minute, great. If not, i am also fine with that. Cos like I said, it just seems like a tricky window for getting business done. I’m not lambasting anyone.

Cheers for the reply and it is difficult not to agree with you on anything you say.
I stand by saying that I believe that DL would have held out for more- but as you say SA wants to leave and in his final year and MS age his against him.
It's nice to see an others POV

FP has, arguably, been our best signing this summer.

Disclaimer - I’m not Romario under a different moniker.

It has been a great summer window IMO

Kane stays.
Son new 4 year contract.
Replaced ageing players past their peak:
  • Hart -> Gollini
  • Toby -> Romero
  • Sissoko -> Sarr
  • Lamela -> Gil
Signed a world class CB in Romero.
Bought a plethora of young talent for the future in Gil, Sarr, Gollini.
Even got a fee for Hart.

If we can shift Aurier and bring in Tomiyasu, and sign Tarore or an extra striker it will be an Amazing window.

He's doing a fantastic job so far! Really impressed. In 2 or 3 years we should start to see the benefits when we have an amazing young team full of talent and we are making huge profits from the ones who don't quite make it!

Look at teams like Porto, sporting, Savilla who consistently find these young players. That should be part of our model.
