In all seriousness, if we are to go down the sporting director route, it is absolutely crucial that it’s one who is close to Jose otherwise it has the potential to turn sour.

Apparently the article it’s from has the Lille owner saying he’s got a long contract with Campos, but it’s also complicated. Campos not actually an employee with Lille but has a contract with them for his scouting company. Also talk in the article of sharing the database rights or something. Sounds complex.

Sounds right up our street to give it a go tbh, I reckon we'll get him sooner or later.

Well good job we always pull off complex deals at Spurs :cautious:

The more complex, the more likely Levy is to try to get it done and then let us all know how hard it was and not actually get it done.

This is the entire quote on Campos from the article, they are just reporting what was previously said but things could have changed.

"A departure in the wake of Luis Campos is however not relevant. Gerard Lopez said recently that the two men " are bound by a long-term contract. "

I'd be surprised if La Voix du Nord know anything about this. It's just the regional newspaper (my wife's family are from that area) and never struck me as particularly heavy hitting. Ah well, we'll see.
Apparently they are the most reliable media source when it comes to Lille OSC, however the only comment they have made on Campos is to quote what their chairman had previously said before we got Jose and (assumably) made an approach.

Yeah, my French isn't good enough to work out whether that's just badly written or a mistranslation, but it doesn't really claim anything.

Probably just GFFN fishing again like they did with Ndombele.

From the article that @Hakkz kindly posted, Campos’ most successful dealings:

Kylian Mbappe – Profit: £166m
Nicolas Pepe – Profit: £63m
Thomas Lemar – Profit: £63m
Anthony Martial – Profit: £52m
Fabinho – Profit: £43m
Tiemoue Bakayoko – Profit: £40m
Benjamin Mendy – Profit: £39m
Bernardo Silva – Profit: £31m
James Rodriguez – Profit: £24m

None too shabby! I like him. I like him a lot.

Just bring him in for the summer. Surely we can make it work for January. Although I don’t doubt anything when it comes to transfer failure with Levy.

Liverpool, Chelsea, City ?
Liverpool's is a glorified head scout. Chelsea's runs the academy/player-loan and sell scheme. Man Citeh I don't know. But every time we've done it either they interfere with first team affairs, go stirring with Levy or end up buying players that the manager doesn't want

Edwards is not a head scout at Liverpool. There are countless articles praising him and the reach or his influence, so have a read.

It is only ‘if’ DL is prepared to let go, otherwise there is great difficulty with DoF
Um... you'd think this would have been discussed before he signed a contract, right? EG: Jose stipulates that they need a DoF, and Levy can agree or disagree. I can't imagine that on his first day on the job, he'd stop by Levy's office and say.... "I just had an idea... what do you think of a DoF, and you kinda take a back seat to player recruitment'. surely it can't be that random. Jose must know by now where Levy stands with the idea of a DoF. Unless it's more a question of the chap they have in mind wants a certain level of control that they're still debating over.

They call him innovative and clever yet focus almost *exclusively* on player recruitment and trading (which clearly he is good at - no arguments with that)

That’s most of what a sports director or technical director does. Indenting talent, be it a manager or players.

I agree but that was for Leicester who weren’t a top half of the table team at the time. He would never had gone from his team in France to Chelsea or any other top team as they need the finished article and not rough diamonds.

Kante was the finished article. We are going to pay over 100m for 2 players that if could have been signed a year earlier could have been got for 30m. You can find gems who are ready. Look at maddison at leicester. Or closer to home Alli. He came in and showed he was ready within months. Dier is another one who came in under the radar and straight away was in the team. We need to get back to doing this as well as 1 or 2 big name players
