Ange has his way of playing. This is nothing shocking or unknown in that. We currently don't have the squad depth/quality to be able to do that with around a dozen players injured/suspended at any one time with a squad that was already unbalanced/not best suited to his style.

All the work ahead is for the club to do in finally sorting out the squad coherently once and for all.

Because as a coach you have duty of care to ensure the player is ready mentally, not just technically.

If you give them a chance and they give a penalty away like Lo Celso or play a few okish but not great games until Van de Ven returns or a new signing comes in and they go back to the fringes, how do you think that will do their confidence?

Imagine if Ange had have decided to play Dorrington against City and we had gone on to lose 5 or 6 nil....

How do you think that would have panned out?

We got a result there with Emerson and Davies, it was worth trying again.

We have to look after young players too, not just throw them in when desperate
I totally understand where you are coming from. So in the meanwhile we bear with what he is doing at present, suffer heavy losses

People are making this too big a deal than it should be. If the new guy makes a mistake or gets in the end of a bollocking, they will still be grateful for the opportunity to learn and improve. Thats why they are professionals.

We get it that you don't like him but rushing in to say it once again after a defeat is getting annoying.
Exactly. When people complain about this kind of thing, it's pretty much always misunderstood and poo-poo'd as not liking to see any criticism. Often times It's not that at all, it's the spiteful nature of the criticism. It puts people's backs up and there's no need for it. Especially when time and time again, it's the same people

I think some of this is a bit harsh on Ange tbh. Considering 2 stupid penalties were given away by midfielders and one goal was a fucking worldie.
There's no argument from me that our backups are substandard though, but on another night that could've been a wildly different scoreline.
Just take it on the chin, there's gonna be ups and downs...especially with our injuries right now.

We don’t know that. You’re dealing with inexperienced teenagers. It’s a world where every mistake is scrutinised and can become a meme.. It’s a world where there is no escape from social media and the bile that brings.

Obviously you have to give them opportunities and can’t keep them wrapped in cotton wool. But you have to give them the best chance of succeeding early on and away to Brighton, in a team that’s decimated, playing next to a full back, with no recognised DM in front of you is a massive risk.

We also don’t see these boys play. I’d bet at least 90% of posters on here are like me and haven’t seen one of them play 90 mins. Ange Postecoglou is a professional football manager and has seen them every day. You have to trust his judgement on it.

Kind of agree mate, although we were open at times...but yeah you take the two stupid pens ouf ot it, and Richarlison timing those runs better and we win it 4-2.

We need to work on our decision making, but that will improve over time.

Shall we just ignore all the other chances Brighton had that they missed or were saved by our mom? The score could have been a lot lot worse and that is what is concerning.

Richardson was so fucking frustrating, we instantly looked more of a threat when he went off. Our squad needs so much fucking work.

I think one thing worth considering is the fact that all of our recent managers have shown such bloody mindedness when it comes to team selection and tactics.

Now I know every manager has their style of play and ideas, and that every manager must be resolute with this in order to develop these things, but not to undermine the results on the pitch.

Perhaps this has something to do with the fear that their ideas will be undermined if a certain person doesn’t back them in the transfer market. Perhaps they get that impression and there for makes them even more bloody minded with their approach.

Well if we're ignoring all our chances that were offside or missed (by Richardson), then sure why not.

Agree on this — we hit the post twice as well? And Richarlison could have had a hat trick without offsides.

We know we’re going to be open defensively under Ange and it’s going to take a while under his established defence to become more stable — let alone this jumble of defenders we’ve had to throw together. But we had the chances to take something from the game.

The manager wants to win games.

Even if he didn’t, imagine him going in to Levy and saying “sorry we’re 3 more points off the top 4 boss but I was treating it as a free hit. Still mates right?”

And let’s say the young lads have a ‘mare. Comes to the Burnley game and now Ange has to go to Davies, Emerson and PEH and say “yeah mates, remember I dropped you last week for the kids and that sort of blew up in my face. Well now I’m coming back to you lads. I know you all felt a bit humiliated but will you boys run through a brick wall for me today and the rest of January when I’ll be needing you?”

Not to mention what the other players would think.
I don't think he's got much of a choice but to play at least one of the young CBs against Bournemouth. We will definitely lose with Emerson at the back against their dynamic attack. As for your last point - well, the current stand ins are knackered and need a break. Bournemouth is only two days away. That's his line to them.
And of course it might go well. Professional footballers aren't dainty little flowers. Phillips and Dorrington will be champing at the bit to play on Sunday.

Stop being reasonable we could've been 18 nil down after 9 minutes.

Obviously it’s a disappointing performance but I’m not particularly worried. We were missing the whole spine of our team and we don’t have enough depth to cope with that.

I don’t think playing or not playing the teenagers was a major factor. Maybe they are exceptional and would have made the difference but they’re probably like most other teenagers and it will be years before they are ready (if ever) to play first team CB for a top six team.

We desperately need a new first team CB. I think with one other first team CB and e.g Connor Gallagher for Hjobjerg and the team would already look much stronger.

Professional players aren’t dainty little flowers but they are human. These young lads are teenagers. They can’t escape social media where any mistake, particularly in a loss, is meme worthy.

The likes of Davies, Emerson and PEH are experienced professionals. They’ve played for the top clubs in the world and at World Cups. Being dropped for a kid with little or no professional experience would be tough to take.

They have mates in the dressing room. I’ve heard people like Souness and Wright talk about how when you piss one off, you can piss of their mates too.

Of course, none of that is a cast iron reason not to play them. If the manager has no doubts about them, I’d be okay with them playing. But it’s a decision that comes with many risks and you have to trust Ange on it given that he sees them playing every day.

The other point I’d make is that neither CB was responsible for any of the goals last night. The first is Son and Deki not being defensively aware, the second is brainless defending from Deki, the third is Deki and Johnson not putting any pressure on the ball and the fourth is a silly challenge from GLC.

It's not concerning. We won't win every match and we are f*cked with injuries. Chill Winston.

Finally he calls the officials out,got pelters early in the season when I suggested he went on the attack and had a few rants, look where the Mr Nice Guy mode has got us,Dunk last night and Cash previously getting away with it yet reds for Romero Udogie,Bisssoma and another ban on totting up last night, plenty of other instances too, might not be very palatable for some but it works, look at Klopp and Liverpool, all the way back to Ferguson.
