AIG can pull out early, Man United already had Vodafone quit halfway through their contract.

Maybe, but unlike West Ham with XL, they will get a good payoff, probably a massive pay off if they've been stung by Vodaphone before.

Wish someone could explain why, when we have so many people on 6 and 7 figure salaries heading up these banks and organisations, they can cock up so royally that it sends entire industries into free-fall and costs thousands of people their jobs, the blame is never laid at their feet?

Seems everyone is very busy trying to clean up the shit these guys caused but no-ones prepared to ask why and how we reached this point and maybe address the situation so it doesn't happen in the future.

We've got more than half the country slipping dangerously close to the breadline, many of us living beyond our means just to pay rent and bills, oil prices going through the atmosphere, house prices out of control so that only those who already own 15 - 20 houses can afford to own their own place, the government taking more and more every year and the government and Europe sitting back doing absolutely f*ck all about it.

I can see this country sliding rapidly back to the scenes of the 80's - yeah, i know apathy might dampen a bit of the drive and motivation to do what you can for your family in the face of a recession but don't underestimate the power of the people.

It could get nasteh if it carries on like this though. I just cannot understand how so many "professional" financial bods have f*cked up so massively, all at once, and no-one's seen it coming far enough away to do anything about it.

Well it stemmed from the sub-prime crisis which was pretty stupid but you could understand the model.

They would lend money to people who were on the breadline and receive payments etc... as soon as they couldn't pay, the house would be auctioned and they would get the proceeds back. When the housing market in the US crashed, the auction market was flooded and outstanding loans couldn't be repaid, so the banks started to lose money.

Once the banks started losing money this had a knock-on effect to liquidity in money markets which a lot of companies relied on to be able to dip into when costs were high and pay them back when they were low.

It seemed like a good business model whilst the housing market was on a steady up. Regardless of salaries, many people couldn't have predicted it would be a fuck up on this scale.

You need someone on an 8 or 9 figure salary for that

Comparing Mansion - a relatively small online casino to AIG is LOL. Mansion are bankrolled by a billionaire family who nearly pulled out after UIEGA.

AIG are bankrolled by the USA Government.

Gordon Brown should call to have these chuds who achieved this hand over HUGE chunks of their stockpiled wealth from insane wages. These people have basically f*cked millions of us whilst hording way, way over the odds wages, plus bonuses (which is just ridiculous). They don't need credit, they can survive on the millions they've "earned" so what do they care? They should - Gordon Brown, raid their bank accounts and get a court to order them to repay the millions they've cost this country and it's residents.

Never gonna happen - if these guys are going to lose the cash then it'll be to a bunch of pikeys booting in their back door and cleaning out the jewellery box. Brown wouldn't dare upset them, even after all they've done.

or not done.

You can't put 100% of the blame on the people at the top. Have a look around at all the muppets who have bought houses they could never afford on 100% credit with loans over 35 years, brand new car on credit, maxed out credit and storecards etc, etc. These are usually the people blaming the execs up the top.

Here's a free lesson, stop trying to blame someone else and take the bull by the horns by looking after yourown finances and making smart decisions within your own financial means. Warning signals have been on the cards for months if not a couple of years. It's plain to see if you look hard enough.

They also made people lots of money. It's swings and roundabouts in a greed-driven society. We all want high rates on our savings for example and banks have to be profitable to do this.

People have been warned that no institution or means of investment is 100% safe.
