Lyon have assessed a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, but the full-back is not enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Les Gones.

Would be very disappointed if we lost Serge now. We have hugely strengthened the RB depth by bringing in Doherty and having him and Serge for that position, but if we then lose Serge, we have only improved the quality of the first choice RB and not the strength in depth of that position. And while People will say Tanganga can play there, he is nowhere near as good as Serge in that position at this moment in time - he might become the equal or better in time, but right now he isn't. So it would be bad to lose Serge at this present time (and personally i'd be surprised if Serge wanted to leave, in fact i could see him sign a new contract and stay).

I still don't get why we were so unwilling to give Walker Peters a chance and let him go easily.

I don't see why we can't keep him. I know he has had his issues but I think having him and Doherty to rotate gives us a huge advantage across the different competitions.

He's a good player on his day and maybe a bit of competition and watching Tanguy turn things around further up the pitch may give him a bit of a shake up.

We need money and homegrown slots, otherwise I'd be keen for him to stay.

It’s a massive step down for the player, can’t see why he’d want to go.

This will be a bad move for ndombele who finally seems settled, to lose one of his friends may disrupt him. Lets keep serge as back up.

Rather sell him and get Celik in.

Because he needs games and he wasn't gonna get that with us.

But this in itself was odd. Aurier's form was dreadful and we were playing Dier/Foyth there. KWP had shown a lot of promise in some games and was cast aside. Never understood it. I could easily see him playing 40% of our games.

I'm reading this as they are not offering anywhere near what he earns with us. If he wants to move (as was mentioned last year) and won't go to Italy or Russia, surely France would have been a welcome destination for him. The fact that he won't consider Lyon right now has got to be down to money.

The problem is that KWP's form the season before wasn't much better, it isn't his fault though, I've covered this many times on here, he needed a run of games so he can settle and grow in confidence but he didn't get that so when he did come in understandably he'd look out of place.

Anyway I'm happy to keep Serge now, I think he's looked decent in his previous outings, maybe now because he has some competition for his place but it looks to me like he's turned a corner.

1. It'll free up a squad place
2. He's on very high wages for a back-up right-back. We're not Man City, we can't afford too many high-earners on the bench/in the stands.
3. We have Tanganga and Alderweireld as cover. Plus Foyth at this moment in time (maybe the plan is for only one of the two to go).

and
4. KWP was over-looked by both Poch and Mourinho. Probably tells us something that 2 sets of coaches (and their staff) saw him day in, day out and didn't rate him highly enough.

I never understand why people say this. We'll play about 60 games this season with one right back (who isn't even a right back). It's one of the most important roles in the modern game, and certainly the most physically demanding. How do you think it's a viable option to shift our ageing and best centre back out there? These are desperate third choice solutions, not second choice. Also re. KWP, if we just accept that managers know more than us and therefore all their choices are correct it kind of deems these forums to be pointless. They get it wrong a lot.

My view is that to really take your chance as a youth player you need to put in a number of "wow" performances. Whilst KWP did well in the matches he played and got a number of assists and MoM awards it would be difficult to argue them as being wow.

An example is Tanganga who made a very good defensive display on his debut. In fact would do people mostly recall of his first few games? I'll tell you - it was beating his man down the right wing really late into the game against M'boro that got people off their chairs and seeing his quality.

Look at Max Aarons who put in quite a few mediocre performances during the season but started off his Norwich career with 2 or 3 barnstorming displays that cemented his position in their first team.

Both players are equal in ability (perhaps KWP is defensively better) but one has just signed for Southampton recently and the other is being linked with Barca.

He got a hat-trick of assists in a game! Do you think you may be expecting a bit too much from a kid with no experience who was thrown into Premier League football every so often? I don't think I've seen a single performance from Ben Davies ever that fits that bill. Not many youngsters would come through under those requirements. Even Kane was pretty dreadful in his first few Europa games. Also, KWP is now a regular starter at a good Prem club. Aarons remains in the Championship.
