Actually quite happy he's not joining immediately. Let him play for a year or two, learn how to be a professional and develop in familiar surroundings.

Let's just hope that Hajduk still values him in the youth- and first team so he can continue to develop. Two years at a club he wouldn't belong to, at that age, can be risky IMO.
Sounds like a massive talent though which is exciting!

Several generations of his family have played for Split - going back to WW2. I don't think they will treat him badly.

The Gooners did that with the French Lad who's name escapes me now. We tried to muscle in on that deal at the last second if I'm not mistaken.

A bit different. He was already a regular starter for St. Etienne and one of their better players IIRC. The incentive was always there for the teams to play him.

Anyhow, it'll probably be fine. I believe the club is doing the right thing by doing punts like this for the future. Exciting times ahead for sure.

The more we bring in talented young players and ACTUALLY PLAY THEM - the likes of Udogie, etc. the more other talented young players will view Spurs as a good destination for them to further their careers.

I’ve thought that’s the key approach for a while. Some of these lads will play age grade internationals together, and if Spurs are making all the right noises in how the lay out development pathways, through a mixture of smart loans and increasing first team involvement, you’d assume their peers if not getting chances at other clubs will be looking admiringly in our direction. Hoovering up the best talent is only beneficial if you lay out the best development opportunities. Either they develop and become key players for us (eg Kane, Walker, Rose) or they develop to a level that other clubs will pay decent fees that allows us to reinvest (Caulker, Townsend, Livermore, Edwards etc).

Indeed. Paratici has worked wonders with this. Been telling you all for 2+ years how much he has revolutionised the youth set up, and especially identifying young talent from elsewhere and bringing them in.
It's the most important thing he's done for us imo.
Yes, his signings have been great but the focus on improving the youth set up is crucial and so essential for a club like us.

I would expect there to be significant clauses and bonuses to incentivize his continuing development - no way we would send a 16 year old on a two-year loan without considering this.

I was going to way the Jack Clarke situation.

But I think that was a little unique as Bielsa seemed to have already started for planning without him as Leeds got some other wingers in on loan and he had also had a health scare which clearly effected him.

We should have done better due diligence with that one but seen as Udogie and Sarr were both signed and loaned under the Paratici era it has probably been done well.

Is it a loan? I thought it was more of a pre contract for when he turns 18. Like endrick and real Madrid it's an 'upcoming transfer' rather than a loan back.

I don't know the answer, I'm asking. It would also save 2 years of his contract being eaten up

Ali Gold and football.london at it again , please drop the term "wonderkid" it's used far too often on youngsters.

We do seem to upped our recruitment since Paratici and Gabbanini have been involved at Spurs, see out the ban Fabio and come back full time.

Not such a bad thing Luka not getting here until 2025 , he is likely to get more 1st team experience in Croatia than he is in the PL.

This is my assumption from my understanding of the UEFA/FIFA rules that state non-EU or EEA countries cannot transfer players unless they are 18. I'm not sure what the legal term would be in this case but my assumption/guess is that it's sort of a legally binding commitment to his transfer, not a transfer in itself, and thus his contract with us doesn't start until he's 18.

I think Leeds are a bigger club than Split and wouldn't want to be seen as developing a youngster for a "rival", similar to what Fulham one said about one of ours (Sessegnon maybe?).
They were more concerned with their own development than that of Clarke's.

Plus things like this could be a good move for Split, get them a reputation for nurturing young talent and a lot of big clubs may start looking towards them.

I wouldn't actually mind loaning some of our youngsters out to clubs like them, by all accounts the Croation league is pretty tough - I think Modders said something along the lines of it really prepared him well, especially considering his size.
I like the idea of our youngsters going abroad for all the experience and growing it can bring.
