I'm not sure I believe that. He is being far more cagey than dear ol Arry with the press. Keeping his cards close as DL does. This way we may not get shafted so much

Hang on, he's probably being just like Redknapp, saying one thing and then the next day the opposite happens. (Assuming we are going all out to sign Damiao)

The little look down to the right after saying our striker business is done suggests its a little fib to me! ;)

Personally I think Leandro is the best we can hope for, we'd all love Llorente but I think Ade has been brought in as number one for now and playing one up top we probably need an established pecking order (even with rotation)

Llorente would expect to be number one, Adebayor surely does too.

LD can come in and be blooded in gradually as he needs time to adjust to his new country, club, team mates, settle and learn the language etc.....much like Sandro when he first arrived at the Lane.

We'd all like a real superstar striker, a Llorente or an Higuein type but that's probably not realistic at this time, in LD we would have someone who can play the loan role, has a fantastic goal scoring record and comes alive in the box (something we have missed since the Keanatov days) and someone who could be a superstar in the future? he is after all a future BRazilian number 9 and they have been known to be a bit special from time to time.

A gamble yes, but one worth taking and the type of gamble we have to take...we need someone who can play the same role as Adebayor and we still need funds available to sign a replacement for Modric and an exciting winger to cover/replace Lennon

Yeh but Harry did like to let the cat out of the bag as well on certain deals or possible deals. I'm not bashing Harry just think AVB is showing a little more decorum at the moment which I would imagine is far more to levys liking.

See if it continues

To be fair to Leandro he has improved his hold up play, he had an assist in the final and could have had 5 or 6 assists in the whole tourney if his teammates could finish.

But right now he's a goalscorer plain and simple. He'll scuff some goals in, head some in, finish off runs from other players. Nothing overly spectacular. But every shit goal scored counts as much as a Danny Rose volley.

Exactly what we need with Bale and Lennon on the wings and creative players like VDV, Sigurdsson, and hopefully Moutinho behind. Complements Ade well too.

If we sign Leandro I can see him becoming a real marmite player for us fans. Is he worth £20-25M? I think that's a fair price for a top class striker of his age but the question is "Is he a top class striker?" Having watched him a few times now I can see why people might not think so. He's not that quick, doesn't have a particularly hard shot, doesn't leap like a salmon in the air and frankly contributes little to the general team effort. He doesn't score great goals either. Most of his goals are the sort that you could imagine yourself scoring if you happened to be in his position when the ball arrived at your feet. Nod-ins from 2 yards out, toe pokes between the keeper's legs or gentle side foot prods just outside the keeper's reach and just inside the post. Of course the art is in being there and Leandro is in the right position at the right time to score those easy goals because he spends the entire match getting into those positions, and while his goals won't often win the Goal of the Week on Match of the Day they still count. Personally i'd rather our striker got 25 crappy goals a season than 15 brilliant ones (we have Gylfi for that). And that is what I predict we will get if we sign Leandro; 25 goals a season and sod all else. I reckon that's worth £25M.

isnt that why we didnt like Bent and to some degree Defoe

I remember similar debates as to the merits of Dean Ashton. shows how far we have come in not a massive amount of time.

As for Leandro, to me he seems a bit like shearer with more technical ability, and he is only going to improve. I would gladly take him as competition to Ade.

Can you imagine him doing that to John Terry? That alone would be worth 20m+

Deep down I know we will not get this guy, but I keep on hoping. So glad we get Ade, otherwise I would be panicking a bit more.

I'm just not sure why we are talking about spending over 20 million on another striker when we've just signed Ade and we are only going to play one up front. Surely spending that kind of money should have a direct impact on the first 11? I can't see Ade or leandro playing as a WF and I don't see Boas using a 442 so the transfer just doesn't make sense to me. I know its a long season and we will need to use our entire squad but wouldn't it be infinitely better to get someone who could play as a goal scoring WF or up front?

Open your mind to the idea of 'squad rotation'
