I don't want this to flame out but if we're going to splurge 80 million on a question mark from the bottom of serie A or ligue 1 who maybe isn't a complete number nine but has some nine-like qualities, why wouldn't be going for Zaha again? Prime? EPL Proven? Homegrown? Would be desperate to leave Palace? Is the obsession with sell-on value really going to make us that short-sighted here?

Not a bad shout. Depends on how much Palace would want. He turns 29 this year and we would need to consider that he would participate in AFCON as well. He actually put up comparable numbers to Danny Ings last season. In 30 PL appearances, Zaha had 11 goals and 2 assists, while Ings in 29 appearances had 12 goals and 4 assists.

Is there any reason why Dominic Calvert Lewin doesn't figure in the running?
If we want £160m for Kane, they'd be well within their right to ask for £80m-£90m for DCL, if you want to consider importance to the club, age and contract.

I can't see us spending that much on anyone unless they're a guaranteed worldy.

Agreed, but that sounds similar to what we're being told gets DV and LM.

Certainly not a bad player, but £80m (or whatever it is) would be too much to spend on a 28/29 yr old, who isn't a truly elite player in his prime.

PS As a side note, Zaha is in a group of players that Spurs nearly signed over the last 5 seasons, along with Grealish, Dybala, Bruno Fernandes, etc. It's a real shame we didn't get some of these players in...

Christ we've fallen a long way if we're discussing DCL and Zaha as alternatives to Lautaro Martinez.
He still hasn't signed any new deal yet by the way ?

Feeling quietly optimistic about this one. His agent was making lots of noise about how Martinez is happy to stay at Inter and that the decisive contract negotiations would take place on Wednesday, yet the week rolls on and it's all gone quiet again. For as long as Martinez hasn't yet accepted a new deal you can't help but think he is perhaps still open to offers from elsewhere. With the financial troubles I think if Inter don't have more outgoings by the end of the window then they will be bound to accept a bid which is in any way over his valuation (i.e. upwards of 70-90m). For that money kind of money I think it most certainly is dependent on the situation with Kane, regardless of what we have heard.

They only met yesterday afternoon and every single italian source said talks were positive and he is close to signing.....

Yes, I am aware. Of course everybody wants to spin it in whatever way suits them, but all we really know is that 1) yesterday was supposedly a decisive day for his new contract, and 2) he didn't sign a deal yet.

I am definitely not an ITK. But the financial situation of Suning is just extremely bad, especially the cash flow.

[P.S. The parent company of Guangzhou Evergrande (the club who bought Paulinho from us) is in a even worse finical situation. Suning got themselves into bigger trouble after their owner helped Evergrande avoid cash crunch few years ago. What a mess]

Thanks for the info. I simply cant fathom they turned down 90m from us and Atletico in their predicament and are continuing to sign. So i reckon the 90m bid rejected is nonsense

It might be true. But we’ll be back with a lower bid before deadline day, I’m sure…

Romano says Inter Is in direct contact with Moënchengladbach about Thuram, if that goes through could it open up for Martinez if they think his contract gets to expensive ?

Doubt it as he’s probably just a Zapata alternative.

Inter always planned to buy 2 strikers when Lukaku went (Dzeko + 1)
