Tottenham are pondering the option of making a bid for discarded Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar, reports the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 32-year-old is available for transfer after being frozen out of the squad following the signing of Samir Handanovic from Udinese.

Tottenham are said to be considering an offer for the Brazilian international who Inter signed back in 2006.

There is also the possibility that the Nerazzurri could offer the player a contract rescission, thus making him available on a free transfer.

Inter are keen to get the player’s wages off their books given that he earns €4.5m a season and is tied to the outfit until June 2014.

Reported by Italian press. Still a top keeper I reckon.

Was obviously very good under JM, maybe under the right guidance could be again, would be a very good signing if it was made clear he had to get in shape and he got spark back in his belly

His age isn't a problem. Quite young for a keeper tbh. Wages seem doable too. No idea if he has motivation problems etc. People suggesting he's become a bit of a fatso these last couple of yrs? Would a new challenge in a new league and new country be the catalyst for him to regain his place as one the best keepers in the world or would his troubles follow him here. If he can lose some motivation playing for the big European sides, it might not be the easiest task to get him working his nuts off for ickle old us.

The best thing for him is probably a move back home to Brazil tbh.

A lot of the Brazilian players do seem to really go off the boil as they near their thirties and stop looking after themselves.

Probably what will happen I would think. He's got 2 young kids, a smoking hot wife and has had plenty of success. Go back home, play some football in his homeland and still earn a small fortune.

He was an excellent keeper and nothing like Gomes, probably 3 or 4 years ago he was amongst the best 2 or 3 in the world, now though he's put on weight and lost that edge. I'd rate him at about the level of someone like Tim Howard these days.

I think he's past it and I hope we are not going for him. Besides, even if he was in his prime it would take some time for him to adjust to the Premier League, especially since he (most likely) doesn't speak english. Communication with the defenders is very important, and in that respect I think he'd be a huge step down on even Friedel.

It looks like he's lost his no.1 shirt to Handanovic (and it took him long enough to get it from Toldo lol).

Don't Inter also have a very talented young Italian keeper? Surprised they didn't stick him in rather then splashing out on a new one?

Unless it's felt he needs a couple more seasons - Handanovic is only 28 though so hardly a stop-gap option.

'Gianluca Di Marzio:

Basically he says his agent is in London talking with clubs both Arsenal and Tottenham. Di Marzio knows all about Italian football, if he says his agent is London I believe him. That's not to say we'll sign him but he's pretty reliable. He's called several deals just this window, Handanovic for example."

I asked JJ about this new link to Cesar last night and he said there was no truth in it.
