Nothing we can do on this one. If Chelsea pay up and he wants to go there, what are we supposed to do.

We didn't drop out. It's reported we had an agreement with the fee plus Sanchez, with itk saying that Sevilla want to do the deal. If the player doesn't want to come, so be it.

Makes me a little frustrated that we trust some journalists and ITK when the news sways our way, but I already seeing some on Twitter saying we didn't pay up for Kounde.

Romero will out-leap and score a header past him from a corner in this season's Battle of the Bridge.

Think we should sign Sasa Kalajzic from Stuttgart (6'7) as a backup striker just so we can throw him up against Kounde v Chelsea :sneaky:

The timing of this is interesting, it indicates to me that Chelsea were in for Varane. When he chose United, they then stepped in for Kounde.
Varane chose United a long time ago, he was just waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.

Varane chose United a long time ago.

Why would Chelsea wait till literally hours after Varane to United is confirmed before they make a move for Kounde?

You say Varane chose United ages ago, but maybe they were in the conversation right up until yesterday. I doubt United were his only suitor. Varane is much cheaper than Kounde for a start, Chelsea would have been all over it. They love pinching players from under their rivals noses.

Think the important thing to remember here is were never far down the road with Kounde. Quite clear he had a few options that were higher up on the list of possible destinations he would consider and is just waiting for one of those to firm up which seems to be the case now with Chelsea. Quite a normal scenario tbh so was always going to be more a longer shot of him coming to us.

Annoying but so be it. If Sevilla still want Sanchez this still can help us.

There are a lot of other CBs out there that can help us. Lacroix, N’Dicka, etc.

Kounde to Chelsea - £55m
Sanchez to Sevilla - £35m
Lacroix to Spurs - £30m

We get a new CB partnership of Romero and Lacroix, and with the money saved on not buying Kounde, we can spend a bit extra on a striker or another position.

Who knows how fast these flip back and forth, probably get another story later conflicting the Chelsea one. However I assumed he would go elsewhere, so hopefully we see the benefit of Paratici’s multiple options.

So forget Kounde then, if Chelsea want him then he's going there. Just hope we can get a second 'quality' defender alongside Romero.

Yep Lacroix, N'Dicka, Botman Tapsopa, Milenkovic etc. Like the look of Perr Schurrs at Ajax to but Ajax may not part with him and another season at Ajax would probably do him good. These may not be quite Kounde level yet but some may push on and have a high ceiling.
