We were at our best when we had two of the best ball playing cbs in the world with vertonghen and alderwierld. I get it defending comes first, but the reason davinson Sanchez isn't one of the top center halfs in the division is because he is such a liability on the ball.

There is a balance to be had but it is still crucial to have ball players everywhere on the pitch.

Couple of things, we didn't win anything with Toby and Verts at CB. Secondly, people still underplay just how valuable Dembele and to an extent Wanyama were in front of the back four at the time. I'd also have rather had a proper defender paired with one of them as they were both pretty average in the air and usually beaten for strength. They were both classy and i loved them but i think that partnership was overrated. It was solid but not amazing.

Regarding Sanchez, i don't rate him as a defender at all and think he is one of our worst. Are you honestly suggesting Sanchez would be a top tier CB if he was good on the ball, ignoring he is terrible in the air, can't really read the game and also 9/10 times loses out when ever faced with a powerful striker.

Skriniar would show everyone just how bad Sanchez is and is a massive improvement to our back line regarding the art of defender. I think Dier and Tanganga could really learn from him.

Like i said King, VVD, Maldini - These were real freaks of CBs they had/have it all. Someone like Skriniar would be an absolute breath of fresh air to our list of CBs.

Airal prowess was there only weakness as a partnership, but it only really hurt us attacking corners imo not defending. As individual players they were both incredible defenders and 2 of our all time greats.

There defensive record speaks for themselves and I agree our defensive problems come from our soft midfield.

Sanchez is still young van dijk didn't becoming van dijk until his mid to late 20s. Sanchez is an athletic freak and with the right partner can blossom.

Idk about skriniar I'm skeptical about his pace and his heading ability.

I think when I am old and grey, I will reminisce about Dembélé the way my dad currently does about Martin Peters. Players that rarely, if ever, come up in conversation about our greatest ever players but should.

Hope works out for him out there, there's definitely a player in there hopefully a run of games will do it for him.

Good luck to him. Hope he does well. We should have given him more of an opportunity but as he isnt a Jose type CB and he seemingly doesnt rate him as an RB, I guess this was always the end result once Jose replaced Poch.

I think he has potential to be a superstar, so I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't play for us again.

Thought his potential was stifled to be honest. Didn't get a fair crack of a run of games to really improve. It's difficult to keep coming in and out of the side over a long period. Couldn't sustain any form. Good luck to him though, I hope he does well.

Great result!! Gets a run of games and either comes back into the team or we can sell on.

Unless there is an option to buy...
