Looks like the deal is back on.
from the toon website:

Kev Not Hopeful On Woody Return

KEVIN Keegan admits that Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate will probably not be joining the Magpies during the January transfer window.
There had been widespread reports on Saturday that the former Newcastle and Real Madrid star was set to sign for United.
But, speaking after the FA Cup Fourth Round defeat at Arsenal, Keegan said that he did not think that would be happening.
"At this moment I don't think he is going to come to Newcastle," explained the Toon boss.
"In fact I am almost certain he isn't. I think he is going to go somewhere else.
"It looks like we have lost him. I am very disappointed. I fully understand though. But I desperately want him to come."

This would be a great window if we manage to get

Goalkeeper - Stekelenburg 7m
Right back - Alves (Chimbonda plus 12m)
Centre back - Woodgate 7m
Left back - Gilberto 2m
Centre mid - Tiago 8m

Total 34m

Todays NOTW

Keegan confessed: "I tried to bring in one new face and it was Woodgate, but I don't think I have been successful and it looks like we've lost out to Spurs.

"It wasn't a question of money, it was purely down to where the boy wanted to go.
"I wanted Wood-gate as the first part of the jigsaw. Spurs and us both had bids accepted but it looks like I've not got him."
Woodgate, 28, was left out of Boro's team that beat Mansfield 2-0 yesterday and was set to undergo a medical last night. Boro boss Gareth Southgate confirmed: "There was a fee agreed with Newcastle but it was Jonathan's decision."

Have we got Woodgate all wrong? Newcastle would definatly have offreed more money. Could this be another Bent transfer ie turning down a huge offer to come to us?

How can we get Woodgate? He loves it at Boro!

September 2006, Jonathan Woodgate: 'My father's a fan, my family are fans, my friends are fans and I'm a fan. Ask Alan Shearer, ask Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard - he didn't go to Chelsea - ask them about playing for your hometown team. I'm no different. It's in the blood, I'm a Boro fan, I love Middlesbrough and the dream has always been to play for Middlesbrough.' ·

Dec 2006: 'When you love a club as much as I love Middlesbrough, you want to stay. I love it here. This is my home town and when I'm not here I really do miss it. It's my club, my family and pals are here and it's a massive part of my life.' ·

March 2007: 'I'm dead happy. I've got a lot of pride playing here. There's really nothing better than playing for your hometown club.'

Oh well. At least you wouldn't get one of our players saying that kind of thing and then sodding off....

I was pretty surprised that Boro would accept an offer (especially £7M these days) for Woodgate.

I was then pretty sure he would be off to Newcastle.

The off field stuff and injuries are certainly legitimate concerns, but I can't help thinking about the alluring possibilities of a King & Woodgate partnership.

The injuries are a concern. Forget all the off the field bollocks until someone actually proves it. Don't just listen to a bunch of rumours that come from old women nattering over fences.

I just think boro's willingness to sell him could be a sign of the off field issues. I hope that they are only selling him as they need to in order to fund the purchase of somebody who can put the ball in the net for them, but I have some nagging doubts.

Perhaps there are problems with him and Downings sister, hence either Downing or Woody would have to leave. It does seem that Boro want him out rather then the other way around and may also explain why he turned down Newcastle (bit close to home).

I hope Ramos fitness guy can keep him and King fit for a good time coz these 2 could form one of the best Center half partnerships ever.

Awesome signing if it comes off imo.

As long as we can keep him on the pitch...

Don't expect Levy to give you a call to help him with adding up the cost of our transfers, Bubble.
