The stuff with the father and agent sounds a bit worrying, but I guess worst case it's a small investment on what could be a massively good player that we're going to need to make it into the top four.

This situation reminds me of Riqui Puig. How he looked like he might be the missing piece a few years ago and how he could be Pochettino's dream to coach. But then he used us to leverage Barca into a better offer and more concrete promises of first team promotion. Now Puig's career is predictably stalling at Barca, less than 300 minutes in La Liga last season and even fewer than he had the year before. Literally everyone saw that coming a mile away. Every tweet about how close this is I just keep thinking of getting burned by the Puig.

I think it's different now - Barca are broke and players are taking wage cuts, they cant afford to meet his expectations in terms of wages etc. so he's looking elsewhere - if they capitulate then they're fuelling a fire that's already well out of control

This might be the 1st twitter post i have posted on here, so if I have screwed up, or it is not allowed, I will delete.

Edit: Re the moon at the start of the tweet, he added this.
The main aim of this page is to ensure which news is reliable and which isn’t. Hence, a reliability scale [,,, & ] has been implemented. Brighter the moon = Higher the reliability of the report.

If he helps us make top four, it would go a long way in recouping the money

Now that I know this tweet is allowed in the players thread, the best news, if this guy is correct, is that the player is convinced to come.

That could mean a few things, but hopefully it means his wages and agent fees are sorted, as I believe they are the sticking points.

The fee will Barcelona is apparently the easiest part of this deal, but that could change also.

Not sure about this guy if I’m honest. Getting some Dos Santos vibes about a Barca youngster coming here.

How good actually is he? I see hasn’t played much for Barca or the Spanish youth teams according to Wikipedia. He looks fairly robust on YouTube and has a nice shot, but has anyone actually seen him play, or are we basing these judgements on Football Manager?

I’m not going to claim any knowledge of him but here is a bullet-point summary of an Athletic article regarding the breakdown in his relationship with Barca (complied by reddit user DrKlaw, not me):
  • Barca has rated him as elite since an early age, and broke their wage structure to put him on a 2M Euro salary at age 16
  • He's been a first-team regular since his debut and has shown every sign of fulfilling his promise at the top level
  • He's being frozen out at Barca for refusing to sign a new contract with 1y left on his existing deal. Barca aren't willing to negotiate any further
  • He and his people seem determined to cash in on his talent, so he probably won't come cheap despite the Barca finance situation

Thing is, if this is true, no club in the world will accept to those demands , for someone ,who just played handful of games . If we sign him, no chance we are paying that money -if we do , probably would be performance related.
If deal with Barca happens, I think this will happen.

yeah I agree.

There are 2 stories doings the rounds here;’

1) we’ve agreed terms with the player as be his reps, now just need to agree fee with Barca
2) the player’s dad wants £15m as part of the deal.

I don’t see how both of those are true. Of course they could both be, but the second story I’m struggling with, because
1) it’s a red flag on the players attitude and his entourage, which will most likely bite us on the arse next time we would want him to sign a contract
2) that’s just not something that Spurs usually entertain

??‍♂️

This thing from 3 hours ago reckons Chelsea are signing him

It is based on a Twitter account from this guy who has also said we are in for him more recently

The first team that took an interest in Ilaix as soon as they broke everything with him #Barça it was Tottenham….?
