I just want my wingers to have a better g/a ratio than goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni. Ginola was easy on the eyes and graceful, for sure though - just had similar output to somebody like Sean Davis
Perhaps, but I think he’d be far more effective in a side like ours right now and in this time period than he was in an era were football was more direct, and wingers were far more about being providers than goalscorers to two centre forwards (yet he was providing for Armstrong and Iversen) while getting none of the protection afforded to flair players in this day and age. The amount of perfect passes and crosses he put on a player for us back then to only see our shoddy front line waste them was ridiculous, there’s a reason why the two best managers of the time, Ferguson and Cruyff, both wanted to buy him.

He averaged a goal or assist every 390 minutes in his career, just looked it up. He wouldn't get a squad number imo. ?‍♂️

I know you're joking, but it's actually amazing what people would actually miss in content of the 'modern way' of looking at football.

I have thought of a way of trying to show the context of it though.

I agree with Dembele. He made all the other players around him better. Eriksen wasn't the same when he left, Dele hasn't been the same either.

He was massive for us and his absence is noticed more than anyone else IMO.

Ginola is a luxery Jose would not tolerate at the time of his signing it was thought he would be supplying loads of chances for Ferdinand when in fact Ferdinands chances were fewer when Ginola played myself and those that sat around us preferred Sinton for his whole hearted
unselfish team play . Ginola player of the year was a joke he like Moura is or was capable of great moments but consistent performances he was not capable of . I can't remember who the full back on his side of the field was I think it was Edinburgh had a mare of a game when Ginola played because he had no help whatsoever but when Sinton played he was solid as Sinton was always there to help out and that is something { helping out full backs } that was not in Ginolas personal remit . Lazy flash git who played great on very rare occasions the rest of the time he was a passenger . I await the abuse and " you know nothing about football " messages.

Great player that he was i prefer to be grateful that we just re-signed the most destructive player in our recent history.

We are a Luka Modric away from seriously challenging for the league (injuries permitting of course)

Instead of wishing for players a long time retired I think us as fans should try to find a way to get our owners to get not one but two strikers the money people at spurs have been remiss for three years . One year I can forgive then two years I find disgraceful if we dont get strikers in this window then heads should roll and thats the head of who is responsible for recruitment . I say two strikers and that is one to cover injuries suspension tiredness and that one should be stellar and then back it up striker with a Deeney or at the risk of upsetting people Benteke . Tonights game shows just what a precarious position we are jn . For those that turn their nose up at strikers they dont rate recent results of Man City with no strikers and our struggles with no strikers for much of last season it tells me we should not be turning our nose up at certain strikers when Kane is our only true centre forward .And injury is just around the corner . Son is out if Kane was injured and we have only one back up striker we are in the same bad place .

our best player since peak Bale. I love Kane and Sonny to bits, and for a while Dele and Eriksen were sensational, but this guy was just incredible..........better than all

convinced that if we had even a half fit Dembele playing for us in Madrid we win that final.

This point rather demonstrates the exact opposite of what you are saying. It shows that no matter how much money a club has it remains impossible to cater for every possible situation in football. When a club sees their two prime players for one position get injured they are always going to struggle. This goes for all teams in all leagues and proves that you can't just spend your way out of these situations.

The other thing it shows is how blinkered people can become by the situation immediately in front of them. You are essentially calling for 4 players who can competently play at CF but that is going to directly lead to a shortage of player depth in another position. If we had 4 competent strikers but then lost 2 GKs to injury people would be crying out that we don't have 3 competent GKs. If we had 4 strikers and 3 GKs but then 2 RBs get injured people would cry for 3 competent RBs in the squad. And so on and so on.

The PL allows a squad of 25 senior players, a football team has 11 players. You are suggesting allocating 16% of our squad allowance to cover 10% of our team allowance. That doesn't create a balanced squad and is just kicking the can down the road in terms of squad depth.
it tells me we should not be turning our nose up at certain strikers
You've already said that our 3rd striker needs to be "stellar" so that means we must turn our nose up at most of the available striker pool surely. And I don't think that buying poor players is a good recruitment policy at all. It certainly won't work in the long run, and isn't that what we actually want to achieve; long term success?

Look at how much abuse Llorente got when he was here for being a "second rate" player who wasn't up to the job. And a bunch of it was fair. He did a great job for us during the CL run but you could argue he brought little else to that team. I'm not trying to knock Llorente here, just saying that a stop gap player is only ever going to be a stop gap, and if we are looking to build a squad that can compete on multiple fronts we won't achieve that with stop gap players.

If a player can bring a bit of extra sparkle or has bags of experience (eg. Davids) then there is an argument to be made for that. But Deeney or Benteke don't bring that. And I think a lot of the second string options out there at the moment don't bring that either.

I would say that it's better to be patient and get the right player than to rush and get the first player available. A rotation option is far better than a backup option.

When we bought Ndom, I hoped we had found our Moussa replacement. Fingers are still crossed.

I love watching any player that has the ability to make the opponent run the wrong way, with a bit of deception and body movement.

Ginola could do it, definitely Moussa could too. Hoddle created space for himself so easily with a subtle movement (which was good, cos he wasn’t the fastest). Ndom has it too, and it gives me a buzz to watch it.
