Where management is concerned sometimes it's 'horses for courses'.
Ramos is tactically astute but appears somewhat introverted. Poyet, on the other hand, seems to have the brains of a saveloy but passion in buckets. Combine the two and you get the perfect combination.

Getting in Ramos was a good decision by Commolli/Levy, but getting in Ramos and Poyet was a masterstroke.

I'd dispute that. As others have pointed out, Leeds looked like cruising back into the Championship despite the 15 points deduction. Since Gus left, their form has bombed (4 points from the last 6 games) and at the moment they look unlikely to make a play-off place. That suggests to me that Gus is far more than a mere motivator.

Agree, SS57.

Plus it does suggest that Dennis Wise is a pretty decent manager too...

you can never underestimate the presence of someone like gus.

ramos goes on about the psychological of the game and when you have someone like gus who is as passionate as he is and helps build team spirit, then he is just as crucial as the rest of the team, whilst the fact that he also seems to be tactically astitute (based on the leeds example) is an extra. combined with the further added bonus of actually knowing the club and english game well, he is also able to facilitate the transition of spanish to epl football for ramos.

barcelona a few years ago were unbeatable and had a fantastic dressing room spirit and everyone got on. then henk ten cate, the then assistant coach left to become first team coach at ajax (?) and their form dropped and the squad's big names started squabbling.

it was revealed later that ten cate's influence was not only tactical but also team building, and i think this is one of the big examples of how someone like gus can be invaluable to any team.

Absolutely critical. Great man with a huge role in the set-up.

Leeds starting falling apart before Wise left I believe. I think that shows Gus was doing a fine job there too.
