Holtby the starter

Tonight showed us that he is ready to step into the first 11. However not in a wide position as cover or in a forward player as a link man, but in the DM role occupied by Parker.

Scott has been great for us but needs to be rested then tested.

Holtby is so suited to breaking up the play and moving the ball on intelligently. People will say the he hasn't been worthy of a start yet but do you think Parker dembele or Sandro could play wide forward if asked?

It's not where he is best utelised in my opinion

I would drop Parker for Holtby in a heartbeat in all honesty.

He could do a job alongside Dembele until the end of the season.

with the players we have its looking like a 433 is the way to go.​

Players like Carroll, Holtby and Hudd could come in to play along side Dembele and Sandro next season and we will have Bale out wide again.

He has been great through the center, but we look better as a team when he is out side.

Made a couple of really good balls,run's about well, tries hard but not much else. Seems to fade out very quickly too, Can tell he is a good player but not quite good enough yet.

I was impressed, then less than impressed but on the upward impressed arc again now.

I think the glimpses hint at the potential to be a real star for us if he gets a run in the team.

Yep, I think he will get better and better

His break up play is immense and he was still closing the ball down at a sprint with 120 minutes on the clock

I think at times we look knackered because our midfield is more effort than craft. Always nice when you have both and I believe Holtby has that.

Not sure if he should play there this season but next season I hope Holtby and Carroll get more game time.

In the last two games Parker has had his best performances this season.

I think either Dempsey or sig should be dropped.

I knew he could play this role but didn't think he would be most adept this deep if i'm honest. I'd like to see a midfield 3 of him, Mousa and Sandro. I think that would be immense

The conundrum is what do we do the rest of the season when we have 6 spaces to fill but these players available:

Dembele, Holtby, Carroll, Parker, Thudd, Siggy, Dempsey, Bale, Lennon, Defoe, Ade

Would argue the bolded ones are likely to be given as peripheral but Dempsey was firmly in AVB's plans before the injury.

I would personally want to see... (This is playing the 4-2-3-1 system we've done most of the season)

He was brilliant tonight - was all over the pitch tackling, passing, finding space, tackling again. Completely agree he should start centrally.

Shout out to Tommy C, as well.

Him and Dembele should switch. He needs movement in front of him to see his best football, Modric was the same. Parker and Dembele are too slow moving the ball from deep. Dembele certainly provides a threat driving at oppo defenders further up the pitch

He should be starting and we need a DM but I don't think he's suited to that role.
On current form I'd say Hudd for Parker.

Definitely think this is the way to go at home. There's no DM but an extra body could make up for that. Plus Dembele and Holtby can tackle.
