Not sure if people are interested but Gunter is starting against the Dutch today. Should be interesting to see how he does against Robben and hopefully a good test for him

Engelaar certainly looks like a player worth keeping an eye on duringt he Euro's. He was seriously impressive during the first half. He only plays for Twenete, so probbaly wouldn't cost much. Could be a good DM option.

Gunter made a great header from a free-kick whipped in by sneijder, showed great awareness and bravery as he headed the ball away and smashed into the post at the same time. great defending, really impressed me defensively. Going forward he is getting into the positions but his final ball isnt always great but he is so young and will definately be in our 18 next year.

Gunter's best attributes looked to me to be his intelligence and good turn of pace. He showed initiative to turn up unexpected at the back post twice, unmarked, and should have had one goal from those two chances. Although he was partly at fault for Robben's goal, he did come close to matching him for pace over 20 yards.

Gunter was not at fault for goal.

Saying that i would have hoped he would have made a better attempt to block Robbens shot

He was very impressive. I won't be surprised if he starts for Holland in the Euro's. I would much rather see Engelaar and De Jong as the DMs than van Bronckhorst in that position.

Yeah, he caught my eye (then again, at 6'5" he'd catch anyone's). Once he got the ball out from under his feet he picked out some fantastic passes.

He's also the Captain of Twente, so obviously has some leadership skills, so it will be interesting to see him against some better teams in the Euro's. What I liked about him was the fact he was so keen to come and take the ball, whenever the more creative players had run into to dead ends. He'd make himself available, then play it simply, but quickly through the midfield. He must have made 50 passes in that one half. He was the main reason the Dutch were able to play at such a high tempo, as he was constantly there to keep the ball moving.

Bit like Zokora of late, then (save it, i know you disagree ;)). What impressed me was that in addition to this he seemed to have a Carrick-like range of passing at his disposal.

There's a good interview with Engelaar here

http://netherlands.worldcupblog.org/euro-2008/engelaar-i-do-what-i-do-and-plod-along.html

in which he seems like a very grounded bloke - you can see why he might be captain material. Apparently Schalke are very close to having signed him, if they haven't done so already. I can't really comment on his ability, but getting the needed bonuses of height, leadership and experience along with that ability sounds like a good deal.
