Unfortunately you are right- I am 66. Greaves was the best there was. As good as, Maradonna, Messi, & Ronaldo if not better. Hoddle was like Cruyff - just unbelievably good. The best striker and the best midfielder to ever play for us. We should not really put one above the other. This is an unfair poll.
In order to have seen Greaves at his best you would need to be at least 60 years old!
I would imagine that the majority of posters are between 10 and 20 years younger, and couldnt in all fairness have seen Greaves inhis majestic pomp.
Im over 70 so feel able to comment fairly
Greaves was without doubt the finest striker i have ever seen worldwide, and whilst Hoddle was the best ever mid field player for Spurs i have seen many other midfielders who were on a par .
However without doubt they were both the best Spurs player in their positions, but for me Jimmy edges it.
I think greavsie or kane is a fairer comparison. The differences being Greavsie and the double winning team were just that an exceptional side of double winners. The early 80s side were pretty good cup winners local, and european. Then the contentious one, the current team. They come 3rd because they have yet to win stuff. Maybe the 4th best team was our 1st serious foray into CL with bale in it. All of them good times.
It's an unfair poll because it's like comparing apples to strawberries, or wingers to goalies. One's a striker and the other a midfielder. Neither is 'better' than the other.
All I can say is that both were absolute geniuses with the ball. Jimmy is (and will remain) the greatest goalscorer in English football history, and Glenn the greatest midfielder Tottenham & England ever had.
The first time I visited WHL, I was 9 years old and it was the same day as Greavesie made his debut against Blackpool, scoring a hat trick. That was me, hooked. December 16th 1961 is a day I'll never forget.
.
Every comparrison is unfair for whatever reason and everyone can have an opinion. I can say a table is better than an orange and give reasons for my view. Doesn't mean that someone else can't have a different opinion and reasons to back it up.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter, it's just a bit of fun to waste time.
