I guess I don't understand this rumor from City's perspective. If they're willing to spend £40 million on Winks, but Ndomble is apparently available for £42 million, why not spend just a little more for Ndombele? I know Ndomble had a pretty rough season, but surely his ceiling is way higher. Maybe Ndombele will go on to disappoint everywhere he plays in his career, but if someone is able to get a tune out of him, he'll be amazing. I would picture City and Pep backing themselves as the people to turn Ndombele into a world-class CM.

What's their squad like for home grown players?

City have been going out and buying good squad players to fill up their quota in the past. This just looks the same.

Because this has only come from Dragon1, and is, without meaning to bash, not true.

He has been for us but for Betis he was playing in the false 9 role. I hope it's not another case of Lamela where the big scoring stats disappear once they come to the prem but I'm hoping it was more do to our needs rather than ability to consistently produce those goals.
Thing is, for Betis he was head and shoulders the most talented footballer so was given more freedom. All other times in his career he’s been an 8.

City may not want him, but interesting that someone leaking stories that he’s available at the right price.
Think they're just rehashing an old story to get some clicks. Pretty sure the same thing was said last year, for the same price too.
Still, it fuelled a good discussion and wasted some time.

I basically agree with @BringBack_leGin here. Our CM is a bit of a mess so I would maybe lean towards keeping him around just as a "known quantity". But 40mil is a massive figure for a player who offers little to nothing in terms of offensive or defensive output. His only redeeming quality is that "he's tidy on ball and HG". If he weren't a youth product no one on this forum would rate him.

So I'll be fine either way.

I like him when he first burst into our starting XI. Love him. But he became so conservative and reserve as time goes, playing the safe game over and over again with very poor positional sense. Playing beside Sissoko really didn't help.

I am more than willing to give him another season to prove his worth if Mourinho has plans for him, but 40m onwards is really too great an amount to pass up.

And really, what is the stand-out trait of Winks TBH? Dele has abilities to ghost past defenders to score goals (had scored important goals for us) and has dribbling capabilities. Lamela has tenacity, drive and passion who rubs people off the positive way. Even Sissoko has directness, strength and pace. I really have no idea what Winks has.
Totally disagree about this. I think his positioning has shot upwards ever since Jose took over and was very impressed with it during the last several games of the season.

I can understand frustrations with the safe passing though, I think those criticisms are totally warranted. That said we're not really playing a system that links the defense to the midfield to the forwards very well currently especially with Sissoko playing as his midfield partner who often hides from receiving the ball if he's not in space.

I would also say Winks has shown plenty of tenacity and willingness to work for the shirt, just like Lamela. He just doesn't do the dirty bastard stuff like walking on players' hands like Lamela does.

Home grown. Good player. Can hopefully play his desired position fully this season.
I cannot for the life of me see how he is let go.

Would rather keep him but could understand if we let him go for a 40m+ offer.
With the potential sales of Winks, Ndombele, Aurier, lamela and a few other squad players, we could have 120m to invest In a new team

I reckon if he goes he has to be replaced, otherwise we’re back to a lot more Sissoko than any of us wants.

Too much disruption in the squad will be disruptive. He has potential and skill. At least another year imho.

For Winks hasn’t been the same since his ankle issues he had

seems to have lost something and also think teams have figured out if you press him when on the ball then he’s quite easy to nullify especially in a team like ours
