To be fair though, people have different aptitudes for language learning, just like learning any other skill. For example some people pick up playing musical instruments very quickly, whilst others could spend years trying to become competent.
You are talking about one of the best footballers in the world, and the skill of playing an instrument is the example you choose to counter language skills with? 😅

Should have stayed at spurs…

I know I’m naturally biased but he really should have.

Would have meant more winning something here then in Germany as well.

As long as his hamstrings held, he’d have probably been on 20 leagues goals with us by now as well lol.

Things I’ve learnt today: Paul Parker is a massive ****.

Harry Kane is “selfish” and “everyone is laughing at him in England” during a Bayern Munich trophy bid, claims former Premier League star Paul Parker.

The prolific 30-year-old frontman headed to Germany in the summer of 2023 after severing career-long ties with Tottenham. A €100 million (£85m/$109m) transfer was said to have been driven by Kane’s desire to collect major honours – which had proved elusive throughout his time in north London.

Kane suffered defeat in the German Super Cup shortly after linking up with Bayern, and has seen them slip behind surprise leaders Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundesliga table. He has still registered 26 goals through 25 appearances, but has been accused of having records set by Robert Lewandowski dominating his thoughts.

WHAT PARKER SAID ABOUT KANE

That is the opinion of ex-England international Parker, with the Premier League title winner – who spent five years of his playing career at Manchester United – telling wettfreunde: “I think… as much as I'm not a big fan of Harry Kane, you have got to respect the amount of goals he is scoring. It's definitely impressive. The problem is that he is not good to have around. The only thing he is focusing on is beating Lewandowski's record. That's the only thing he cares about and then he can come back to the Premier League to take another record.

"He is very selfish. Look, everyone is laughing about him in England. People were talking about him leaving because he wanted to win trophies and he is not winning anything. On the flipped side of things, Tottenham are doing extremely well. I said it when he was there, they would be better without him. Now, it shows that I was right. When Harry Kane is at a club, everything is about him. Everything. I think Spurs should be happy he left them.”

————————

What a bell. An ex professional saying he’s not a fan of one of the best strikers in the world is laughable enough but wtf is he talking about. Aside from a few memes, no-one is laughing at Kane (Bayern are currently 2 points behind Leverkeusen as I type this and still have to play them). I’m sure Kane’s sole reason to join one of the biggest clubs in the world was to beat Lewandowski’s record…….. what a complete pile of wank from Parker. Jealous he didn’t go to Utd is my guess.

Edit - to be fair, he’s dissed him before….

It’s different though, because in many European countries people are taught English from a very young age. Where I live, kids are being taught English from preschool age. You see English everywhere. People working in shops and restaurants in city centres generally speak English to a decent level, especially anyone under the age of about 40. It’s not even that they learn English to communicate with English people - it’s to communicate with anyone who doesn’t speak the native language.

Kane has only been in Germany for a few months. It could take him years (if ever) to reach a decent level of German. Not because he’s stupid or English but because learning a language takes time and work .
Plus English and American music and films are being watched and listened all over Europe and the world.
The only time we ever hear Spanish is if we go to Benidorm. Never hear German except on old war films.
Berbatov said he learned English by watching gangster films.
English has become the universal language .

quite an article. So the plan is to break Lewie’s record and then come back. Surely he would have stayed in the UK and tried to break Shearer’s record or is he coming to do that after his German escapade? I guess his article gets internet hits and he generates traffic.

I used to respect Paul Parker as a player, especially as he was a remarkably tough defender for his size. Such a shame that life has turned him into a bitter, curmudgeonly old git even before he hits 60.

What a bizarre article. Asserts that Kane is 'not good to have around' without even hinting at why and suggests he's just after Lewandowski's record without explaining why that's a bad thing anyway.

Can only assume Harry must have left a massive unflushed log in Parker's downstairs loo for him to be that bitter.

Last week a Man Utd colleague at work was adamant that Kane was coming back to the PL, he claimed it was all over the news sites. I argued that he’s only just joined and now moving his family across, there was no convincing him.

low and behold all week since I’ve been battered with “news” websites claiming he’s returning. I’ve resist the urge to click on any of them.

it did get me thinking though. How great would he have been this season? What could we achieve next season with a settled squad, a Deflated Liverpool, Arsenal with Lego head, Utd and Chelsea with new managers… with him, could we go toe to toe with City.. we will never know I suppose.

Another game another goal. Bayern were 8 points behind 2 weeks ago and now they’re 2 points behind. Leverkeusen still unbeaten.

Kane has now equalled Luca Toni’s record of best debut season in terms of goals…. With loads of games left. Kane’s now on 24 goals.

On a separate note, Ange was asked on TNT today by a young fan about re-signing Kane. He said: "Well, it would be great if I could, but the beauty of Harry is that everything he has done at this football club will remain forever. Even though Harry is not with us now, he will always be part of this football club."
