Nah no big goodbye. We don’t want him to go, let’s not wave him off like it’s okay. Liverpool didn’t keep Henderson around for a few more weeks just for a send off despite lifting everything; same with Chelsea and Azplicueta. You can’t justify having him be paraded during a pre season measure for a season he won’t be involved in.
Out of interest, what did those clubs do for Gerrard and Lampard because they’re more comparable.

I mean, both Henderson and Azpilicueta lifted the European Cup. Pretty sure both had their contracts end and so maybe had a celebration at the end, like Liverpool did with Firmino. It’s a bit different if you’re actually deciding and pushing to leave imo.

Seem to recall them getting send offs on the last home game of the season. Because they were both passed it and heading off to the MLS. It’s not comparable to what’s happening here.

Yep, if he wants to leave and is going to, then he's no longer a Spurs player and has no right to don the shirt.

Once he retired, he can come back for some legends thing or something but the moment he says he wants to go, no matter how great a servant he's been, he's no longer one of us.

There's no time or place for sentimental bullshit right now.
And I love sentimental bullshit - I cried a little at Lucas’ last big moment for us being that Leeds goal rather than that Liverpool fuck up - but it’s neither practical, nor in my opinion helpful to have him play if we know he’s out when we’re playing a competitive game next week. You’re with us or you’re not, and if he’s not that’s his choice, but then he shouldn’t be included in the team.

If he's playing against Shakhtar as a starter then I don't believe he's going this summer. If he's on the bench then he'll likely come on to say goodbye

Surely none of the parties involved can’t risk him being on the wrong end of a mis-timed tackle that could do his ankle and scupper the whole deal. There’s no way he plays tomorrow if the deal has been struck.

Agree. If he's made his decision and communicated it to the club then this isn't a club legend retiring, or even realising he's no longer in the plans ala Moura/Lloris. It's our erstwhile hero deciding to leave for what he believes are sunnier pastures. I'm not sure how the club thinks everyone is going to react if this is going to be billed as his send-off. Personally, while I feel no animosity towards Kane, I'm much more interested in getting behind the players who are going to be with us this season than some big teary goodbye just as the PL is getting underway.

Totally agree with this. No ill feeling but I would really like to see the new team forming.

My heart says this too. Surely a week before the season if he starts, as captain, there’s nothing even remotely close. It’ll give the wrong impression to the fans who adore him.

But my head tells me, it’s football, they don’t give f*** about the fans 😄

Perhaps the leak that he could be involved is to help our leverage in other deals if we're making progress with a few.

He can't play no part or be nowhere near the stadium without us announcing something about a move, or the potential for one, because keeping him away is tantamount to that anyway. So if we say nothing, he'll definitely be in the squad and play some minutes even if not start. We might have ITK here that it could be done, but as far as the watching world is concerned, we've not accepted anything at all.

I mean - Bayern don't even make a bid, unless they had been encouraged by Kane and his entourage.

I can see this going sideways on Kane and Spurs, if he is just in the match to have a grand send-off. This is a pre-season game, that should be reserved for players who are going to actually be here this season.

Let's be honest, no one is changing their mind based off whether he plays or not. Everyone has already decided what they think is happening, and will just twist whatever happens tomorrow to somehow fit what they think.

That's how Bayern have presented it, but the line from Kane's camp all summer has been that they are open to the move if they can agree with Spurs.

I don't think Kane is desperate for the move, if it works for everyone, he'll go, but he's clearly not going to force it.

Not for me mate.
While I can completely understand his decision to leave, he's leaving by his own choice and that means he doesn't get a single minute in our shirt again.

He's chosen to leave, that means he's chosen to give up his hero's goodbye.

We look forwards now, not backwards.

(I'd whitewash that fucking stupid mural too, if it were up to me!).

That's how every club operates, Bayern, Spurs, anyone.

You find out if the player wants to come before you deal with a transfer negotiation with the club.

Yeah, and like I say, I'm sure Kane said he's open to it. But that's not the same as him being desperate for it.

They'll just say he's ill or has picked up a knock or something.
Easy enough to do.

If he is going, he shouldn't even be at the stadium, let alone sat on the bench with his no longer team mates.
