No links but remember there being complaints about it in the year or so after he went across. Can't remember the context entirely as it's a decade ago now, but remember there being some beef on being slow on payments.
Football debts are pretty safe because of the sanctions fifa can I lose for non-payments so there must be more to it.

Maybe he was just joking about an unfavourable exchange rate or inflation fluctuation which could make sense. But Both of those can still be addressed in the contract without needing to demand a massive majority of the fee upfront.

For what it’s worth, that Darren Yarlett guy on twitter thinks he’s gone
Just for the record on Darren Yarlett.

He had superb itk at the start of the season because he was actually working at Hotspur Way at the time.

I believe this is no longer the case, and he now is open in that he is just posting his opinions.

So no need to post him anymore.

It's not spin; there's a legitimate argument. For example, if we have another season like last season, where we finished eighth and achieved nothing of note in the cups, and at the end, Kane walks to a Prem rival for free, will we all be saying what a great bit of business it was to turn down over a hundred mill euros for him to keep him for the season? Maybe some people would just be glad to just watch him for one more season but there's a valid debate to be had - no spin about it.

Lot of IFs in your post. Without a time machine it's impossible to know how it will go. Future events can make a seemingly bad deal seem great and vice versa.

What if he stays for a season and then moves to Madrid, PSG, Bayern or Barca anyway? Potentially securing us CL or a domestic cup in the process.

Even better, what if he signs a new deal before Christmas?

I accept it's worthy of debate, but for me personally I would rather keep Harry Kane at any cost, to me he's priceless. I will require said spin to help mourn the loss, and dilute my anger at Levy for failing to build a sufficiently successful team around a generational talent.

I believe I speak for us all when I say that a deal that does not include the kind of special partnership we had with Real after the Bale deal, is no deal.

People thinking a £14million difference isn't that much need to remember they've already come up from their starting bid by £20million it's an awful lot over the price they wanted to pay.

sounds like it's levy up against herr levy on the bayern side

I'm already resigned to him leaving, so I'm just happy to see us receive a lot of money for him if this is true.

In an ideal world he stays, signs a new deal, and plays out his career at Spurs, becoming the all-time leading premier league top scorer. However, if there's even a slight chance he won't sign a new contract this deal makes a lot of sense. I couldn't bear to see him every week playing for a different PL team.

Did he lose his job because of the leaks he did?

A crucial difference though is that Levy has nobody to answer to really. (Lewis never interfered contrary to reports and the family trustees won’t) it’s only his opinion that matters.

by contrast, Bayern CEO has institutional shareholders and his own job to consider if he gets this transfer wrong (either by paying too much or not doing the deal at all).

would much prefer to be levy in this negotiation.

Oh yeah, I agree it's all ifs. Personally, I'm relaxed about it either way. Kane was here last season, and it was one of the least enjoyable seasons I can remember in the last twenty years. That's not Kane's fault but it's not like having him here made the season much more enjoyable for me.

I also feel like one more season's not going to make a difference anyway. If we're going to have to get used to him leaving, why not now rather than next year? I just feel like next summer we'll all be going through this again - mourning the loss of Kane.

But I appreciate everyone feels differently about this and lots of people disagree with me.
