How about Kane signs a new 4-year deal, inclusive of a 12-month initial loan to Real Madrid (for a hefty, hefty fee)? Real get a top-notch Benzema replacement for a year; Kane almost certainly wins a trophy and then returns to Spurs to chase down the Shearer record over 2024-27; we get a chunk of money and then the best striker in the world returning to us for 3 seasons.

I wonder how much stock Kane put into winning a trophy with anyone, against winning any trophy with Spurs. Does there come a tipping point where he's gone so far down the road and invested so much personal emotion and energy with one club that simply lifting a cup with the highest bidder for his services can never match the feeling of finally doing it with us, and that becomes the driving force.

He could almost guarantee half a dozen trophies before the end of his career if he joined (eg) City, but I do wonder to what extent that would satiate. For me there'd always be that empty feeling having not done it with Spurs; that there was something unfulfilled.

I'm definitely not in the "let him leave, we've let him down" camp, but Real Madrid is Real Madrid. He'd be perfect for them.

Still tell him no of course. But it's the least hurtful option for fans probably.

And then they will add Halaand after a season or two to the team!

Surely he wants a trophy. I was wondering why they are not more docs about him and I concluded they all would end with h winning fuck all. A trophy would represent success and just wish it was here!

The third stage, bargaining, follows the anger stage very naturally. The normal reaction to the helplessness and vulnerability that comes through loss is an attempt to regain control. There are several ways that most choose to pursue to attempt to rebuild structure in life. Some models of the stages of grief will substitute the word “negotiate” for the term “bargain” and will use the terms interchangeably 😉

I'm entirely sure he does want a trophy. My point was about what matters more to him - because it's likely to feature very highly when he weighs everything up.

Would that one FA cup, or Europa League with Spurs mean more to him than a couple of PL titles and the odd cup with Man City? Would he rather do it once for fans who have loved him for (less a couple of months last year) 10 years or more, or for fans who have - at club level at least - hated him, ridiculed him, slandered him; but who now profess to love him? Which is the more real out of the two?

We'll find out soon enough; I just hope his desire for a trophy with us reflects our desire for a trophy with him.

Sorry a trophy doesn’t represent success. Bryan Gil just won the Europa league. In 30 years that will forgotten but Harry Kane will be England and Tottenham goal scoring record holder and possibly premier league. I see that as more success than gils Europa league

The Gil comment is just stupid matey- he did not win anything playing for Spurs so not sure what you on about there.

I get your point though I was talking about Kane specifically and I think he would potentially feel he deserves a trophy for everything he has done Before bowing out.

30 years - im not sure he will still be holding any record then! Hoping we find another legend by then that has emulated him. Would yiu kit wnat that? Why live in his shadow for 30 years? (Gueesing u probably want Poch back too)

Highest goalscorer in England is probably more important for those that support England though Kane has global reach and he can still achieve the success at international level if he moves abroad.

You have also missed the point I was trying to make. I was trying to say what Kane would want and not you!

The only place that can pretty much guarantee a trophy in England is City. The only real option he has to move to is Utd but they really aren’t that good.

the Madrid thing is a bit worrying. I don’t think they’d stump up what Levy would want though.

Perhapswe can exploit the special relationship to take a couple of their baby galacticos in part ex?

Mate a trophy is the literal representation of success.
As for Kane, he wants trophies. Putting myself in his shoes, I reckon all the goal records he achieves would always feel a little meaningless without a trophy or two to go with them.

Yes, but that's not the choice he's making though.
He's not going to win anything at Spurs- the club isn't set up for winning trophies.
The choice is move elsewhere and possibly/ probably win something
OR stay at Spurs and see out your career loved by fans but never winning a trophy.
I know what choice I'd make if I were him.

If he wants to stay he is allowed to, he doesn’t have to move.

Being the greatest goal scorer in the modern era for your club, country and what is now widely considered to be the best and most competitive League in the world is meaningless?

Have a word with yourself.

There's no trophy guarantees anywhere except City. I don't even see Utd in the top four next season once Chelsea and Liverpool pull their socks up.

I find the trophies talk from a lot of our fans quite strange to be honest. Some people have genuinely convinced themselves that winning and trophies are not the ultimate success in sport.

As for the 'guaranteed' trophies....I would say no club is guaranteed trophies. However, I'd fancy my chances of winning a trophy with Liverpool say....more than I would Southampton or West Ham. Similarly, statistically much more chance of a trophy at basically any of the other clubs....and that's before taking into account the fact we look likely to be going through an even more difficult period.

Man City 13 trophies in past 20 years (12 in past 10)- Last 2023
Liverpool 5 trophies in past 20 years (4 in past 10)- Last 2022
Man Utd 10 trophies in past 20 years (4 in past 10)- Last 2023
Arsenal 6 trophies in past 20 years (4 in past 10)- Last 2020
Chelsea 17 trophies in past 20 years (7 in past 10)- Last 2021
Tottenham 1 trophy in past 20 years (0 in past 10)- Last 2008

(Sadly) Spot the odd one out there.
