Truly staggering how many on here have already decided, with no evidence to back it up, that Levy is going to sell Kane without buying a striker(s) to replace him. Then working themselves into a fury about it. Because, of course, it happened once before in 2008, so that must mean that it will inevitably happen again……

HODDLE didn't play up, You CAN'T say King probably would've moved but for his knee because fact is he DIDN'T!
I'm sorry mate, but I don't begrudge Kane a move at all. But there is a way to go about it and his way has disrespected the club, teammates and supporters. Each to their own ?
I’m still confused about the whole Kane ‘playing up’ thing. He went on holiday to the Bahamas and it’s been claimed in the press that he was meant to return from there to come back to Tottenham right? But he instead went to Florida.
But both places he stayed in were owned by Joe Lewis so the holidays must of been arranged by the club right?

also happened in 2012 with modric & moutinho

and this "of course we'll buy a replacement" would make sense if it was june. it's nearly the last week of august. people are right to be concerned

Even if the club didn’t make the holiday arrangements, under Anti-doping rules, it is a requirement for HK to complete whereabouts information at all times so yes, the club will have been fully aware of where he was (whenever and wherever thst might have been)

I think Levy has made enough monumental ballsups over the years to understand a certain level of skepticism from the fans

He didn’t have a 63k stadium to fill then and highest ST prices in the league. There’s absolutely zero chance if Kane went he wouldn’t be replaced. We are 1 light anyway with Bale Lamela Vinicius going. If Kane did go we need at least 2 in.

absolutely nothing levy's done in the past two years has convinced me he's fussed about making the fans happy. he assumes they'll keep showing up anyway

Im not going to wet the bed until the end of the transfer window… But I’m not going to piss until we sign someone so that I can make the bed wetter than the titanic.

We replaced Modric with Dembele. And Sigurdsson. For good measure, we also bought Verthongen, Lloris, Adebayor and Dempsey that summer.

So, no, the summer 2012 window was nothing like 2008. Moutinho would have been a great addition at the time - the cherry on the icing on the cake - but we certainly weren’t left short in centre midfield.

Scepticism is fine. Concern is fine. But many have already decided that it is definitely going to happen and have started getting angry about it. Which is silly.

dembele was mostly a CAM at fulham wasn't he? moutinho was definitely meant to be the modric replacement and the lack of him showed. why else were we negotiating for him til the last day for what would've been a record fee if we didn't think he was necessary

everyone remembers that 2013 was a mess, it's been four years and we've still not adequately replaced walker, the only time we broke out the cheque book in recent history was in 2019 and we sacked the manager months later to bring in the polar opposite. i don't see why he deserves the benefit of the doubt here

I think what people are simply trying to say is…

Come back in 10 days and complain about us selling Kane with no replacement, not before. If it’s happened that is…

I sometimes think it's a defence mechanism, so that people don't feel too hurt if it does go wrong

No, Dembele had already been used in a number of midfield and attacking positions before he came to Spurs. His qualities will have been known. Moutinho was one of those potential deals that unexpectedly became a possibility later in the window. A shame that Spurs couldn’t quite get it over the line in time but he hadn’t been a key target from the outset.

And it’s not a question of giving Levy the benefit of the doubt. It’s simply a question of not getting pissed off about something that hasn’t happened.

But they'll feel hurt anyway and moan until the cows come home saying "Same old Levy".

Getting this upset over things you can't control and haven't even happened isn't healthy.

Thats the rub tho.... they preempt that hurt for several weeks before hand and then top it off with a nice big fat dollop of misery at the end...

With footballers today its very rarely a simple "sign here" exercise. Every deal has many factors built into it , agent, other club not wanting to lose face in public, other club wanting to get its ducks in a row and replacement organised before we even discuss payment options, player wages and desired squad number.... so going batshit crazy for weeks on end about a potential deal, the intricacies of which none of us are privvy to and never will be, seems bizarre to me. There is no logic to hearing a vague rumour about a player possibly joining us and then setting off on an emotional roller coaster spread over several weeks.. it will come to pass or it wont.

His backup

Don’t really want to get into a discussion about Walker in this thread but Aurier was the Walker replacement. Everyone was delighted at the time. A signing failing to live up to expectations isn’t the same as the chairman leaving the team short in a specific position - which was the point that RuskyM was trying to make.
